Once Upon a Time in Shanghai (2013) - Philip Ng, Sammo

Post by grim_tales »

I quite like the teaser for this - in a way its like an update of the old Shaw Bros movies openings (or what Jackie did for SITES) - a lone figure fighting. One thing I dont like though is the speeding up of the action (it looks like CGI in places) so it doesnt look "real" :?
Theres no actual footage from the film itself though, so... hmmm :icon_suspect:
Also starring Sammo Hung, and directed by Wong Ching Po (Revenge: A Love Story), with Yuen Woo Ping directing the action :D

Wong Jing seems to have two projects with Sammo Hung both set in Shanghai in the 1920's

This one produced by Wong Jing, starring Philip Ng + Sammo sounds like a remake of the Boxer from Shantung.

Then there is 'The Last Tycoon' which is Directed by Wong Jing and stars Sammo + Chow Yun Fat.

Bored by the teaser. Reminds me more of video games than Shaw Bros.

I liked the director's previous film, Revenge - A Love Story, though.

I agree it only seemed like Shaws because of the setting, the speeding up was unnecessary.
Speaking of films set in 1920's, I'm intrigued by Let the Bullets Fly (a Western). Looks good.

It's only a treaser!! Probably has nothing to do with the finished film stylistically. It's just a traditional Chinese intro to Philip Ng as the lead star, against a 'lucky' red backdrop.

Another trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNqPmkDoaqg
Looks like it has the potential to be one of the best HK MA films of this decade.
Here's another poster:

Looks like it's going to be out in 2014 now.
