The questions I always ask, why do Chinese film-makers have a hard-on for horse falls anyway? They seem to use them all the time. It's 1 second, blink and you'll miss it.

China and Hong Kong have improved over the years with regards to animal cruelty in pictures, but it's true that horse trips are a recurrent problem. I wish they wouldn't do it, even if most of the time the horses are OK. I don't need to see a horse fall head first, it adds nothing to the movie. Even if it did, the means wouldn't be justified.

Probably because:
1: it's part of the happenings in battle when people on horses fight people who aren't, and get stabbed or tripped or whatever.
2: because it looks spectacular on-screen, and it's quite hard and expensive to fake I guess.

Their Horse trainers must like using the trip techniques as well though.

I doubt the directors are always asking for falls, its got to be something the stunt team are going with just as a part of a 'standard' requirement for horse stunts.
