I'm going to pass this round, thanks. Basic Instinct is the only Verhoeven film I properly like. Total Recall is pretty good but no keeper. You shouldn't stereotype but it's no surprise the man's Dutch.

I think they all suck, and Verhoeven is a piss-poor director who's fame is build on cheap shock-effects with violence and sex.

The reason Robocop, Total Recall and Basic Instinct are/were popular, had fuck all to do with his directing, and everything to do with script/screenplay and the aforementioned shockvalue.
