Hmmm not sure what to say about that one...

Some shots look great, others over processed..

Does every HK release that's not perfect have to be an upscale? An upscale is a SD resolution upscaled to 720p/1080i/1080p, much like a DVD Player can do. I don't see any of that here. I do see DNR though.

Given it's age, it looks perfectly acceptable.

If there's a smudge between the black and the image, then it's likely to be an upscale.

looks real HD to me,DNR'D HD mind, but HD nonetheless.in motion it pisses from a rather large height on the HKL dvd.worth the upgrade? depends how much you like the film, for me,not of of Jet's best.

It may not be entirely conclusive though (http://adg.invisionzone.com/index.php?s ... entry36893).

Columbia's DVD was said to have the best video quality.

no disrespect Chenlung but you seem to have made it your mission in life to nitpick every asian movie release going whether it be dvd/vhs/blu-ray whatever.don't you ever put to one side this seeming obsession on whether the trailer on a shaw bros release is interlaced and actually sit down and enjoy the movie. i've only ever seen you nitpick,i'm curious to know what asian home video releases you consider perfect?? hang on,write them down on the back of my cigarette packet, there should be room to spare ;)

Titles such as HKL's 'New Police Story' and 'Seoul Raiders' were great, from what I remember. There's more, but I can't list them off the top of my head.

Anyway, put those on your packet of fags for now, with 'TBC' at the bottom  .

HKL DVD's were definitive for English speakers bar only a few.

Avoid dubtitles and Fortune Star remixes and you'll be ok.

And squished and cropped pictures too!

But seriously, when they did good, they did GREAT!

Thanks for info. I love HITMAN a ton! I'm grabbing it along with Black Mask.

Does anyone have any matching caps from the remastered Mei Ah or Kam & Ronson DVDs?

I want to be sure that the BD is genuine HD before I buy.

It's very difficult to tell if this an upscale or mediocre Blu.

The quality varies wildly between caps.

The only way to tell would be to compare the amount of information on the DVD edition.

I have downloaded the full remastered Mei-Ah DVD, but unfortunately I won't be much use since I haven't seen the movie yet and won't be able to provide matching caps. Unless someone can pinpoint exact time the caps should be made. Or I can make some random 5-10 screens if you want...

I guess random caps would be better than none.

If there's no obvious upgrade (increase in detail) we're probably dealing with an upscale.

Mei-Ah remastered:

Have in mind that while the transfer itself is quite good the picture is not progressive and suffers heavily from constant interlacing:

Apart from the interlacing (WHY??) the image looks not bad for a DVD.

Maybe not as sharp or as well contrasted as one would like.
