it's soft looking but that could inherent to the film stock used.i've never seen the dvd so can't compare.Maybe it's been DNR'ed or it's an upscaleoldeschool17 wrote:Is it just me or does this blu ray look like shit?
They aren't jpegs, they are in PNG format, captured and uploaded straight to imageshack.clicking on them gives you the full 1920 image (i think)...anyway PNG format is what i see a lot of BD caps taken in...Markgway wrote:
And what's with the compression?
Well it obviously beats a 3rd gen boot or those compressed youku streams that fusubs decided to boot. For a Bluray, id expect much better. Does anybody have the Siren Visual DVD? I wouldn't be surprised if that dvd looked better.luckystars wrote:They're not that bad IMO. Soft image with obvios DVNR that has lost/smudged finer detail.
Not terrible, but they've over-processed an already unremarkable image.
I noticed the caps were PNG, which should mean lossless, right?saltysam wrote:They aren't jpegs, they are in PNG format, captured and uploaded straight to imageshack.clicking on them gives you the full 1920 image (i think)...anyway PNG format is what i see a lot of BD caps taken in...
Yes, and at this size it shouldn't even matter if they were jpg. If you see compression problems, then it should be the disc, not the caps.Markgway wrote:I noticed the caps were PNG, which should mean lossless, right?saltysam wrote:They aren't jpegs, they are in PNG format, captured and uploaded straight to imageshack.clicking on them gives you the full 1920 image (i think)...anyway PNG format is what i see a lot of BD caps taken in...

Below is a comparison I made using my Yatterman BD. The png caps are the original versions. The first pair is png vs jpg at normal size. The second is png vs jpg at 400% zoom. Can you tell any difference at all between the caps?

Well, I know I have bad eyes. But let's test this just for fun.

Now, which one of those 4 png caps was originally jpg and then converted back to png with all the quality lost?

Number 3, but it's barely noticeable
