cdjapan isn't the cheapest japanese retailer - it's about the same with yeasia, but far more expensive than non-foreigner friendly japanese stores who almost always have 25% discounts for all pre-order items.
However, cdjapan has been improving with a wide selection of coupon and other campagns.
Coupons currently (these change by time)
1) Order items worth 5000 yen and pay by paypal, and you'll receive a 1500 yen coupon (maybe one time only, I'm not sure)
2) Order items worth 5000 yen and pay by another method than paypal, and you'll receive a 500 yen coupon
3) during 3 months order items worth
a) 20,000-30,000 yen -> 700 yen coupon
b) 30,000-50,000 yen -> 1,000 yen coupon
c) Over 50,000 yen -> 1,500 yen coupon
4) special coupons. 500 yen coupons come as present to registered users every now and then, as christmas present, summer present, whatever present. A few every year.
Frequent shopper points: normal (1 point is 1 yen)
1) receive 3% of the order value as fsp
Frequent shopper points: Special occasions
1) Register account: 300 points
2) register birthday: 300 points every year as a birthday present
3) submit online survey (takes about 30 seconds): 50 points (these come almost monthly)
Affliate program
- receive 5% of the order value as fsp (normally 3% I think, and 7% if you sell tons). You also get commission from your own purchases. If you've got a website, place your link there and you're ready to go.
Campaign (currently)
all dvds 5% off till the end of December
+ random discount campagns, including selected pre-order items 10% off

yes you do. Everyone will receive fsp for every order.saltysam wrote:i've used them 4 times this millenium,do i count as a frequent shopper
btw, right now I can't find notice of the normal 500 yen coupon program. They sometimes take it off, but it always makes a comeback sooner or later.
EDIT: I think it may still be valid
However, you can get one 500 yen coupon simply by clicking here:

Re: cdjapan coupons and campaigns
Ok, lets see this in practice, with my last week's order.
DVDs: 6000 yen
Shipping: 700 yen
Total: 6700 yen
Discounts used:
5% off December orders
700 yen coupon received from past orders
900 yen fsp received from past orders
Total amount paid: 4800 yen
Cash back
1500 yen coupon (paypal)
143 yen fsp (3% of 4800)
286 yen affliate commission (5% of 5700)
Total cashback: 1929 yen (17.4€ / £14.6)
+ 5700 yen spent of the required 20 000 within 3 months to receive a 700 yen coupon
Even without the special paypal coupon, that is, using the normal benefits, the amount would be 929 yen (8.4€ / £7)

Why are Japanese DVDs so expensive? Even regular ones are. Some things in Japan are reasonably priced but DVDs/BDs cost the earth.

U can actually pick stuff up quite cheap there if you find stuff on sale, or most second hand shops sell immaculate used good.bradavon wrote:Why are Japanese DVDs so expensive? Even regular ones are. Some things in Japan are reasonably priced but DVDs/BDs cost the earth.
