LEAVE THEM ALONE!
Argh! Just give us Remastered Original Cuts on DVD + Blu-ray and the Special Editions on Blu-ray too. Otherwise LEAVE THEM ALONE! This sounds like a hideous idea!

I don't understand how they could make them into 3D...
Don't you have to have filming from 2 slightly different angles to make it work? Yeah, ok CG shots you can just re-render it for the different angle, but that wouldn't work with live action bits. You can't just rotate harrison ford round a bit to give what the other eye would see.... or have I missed something fundamental about ways to make 3D films?

I was thinking the same but no doubt Lucas will have something up his sleeve, to make it messily fit together.

Any film can be made 3D, does not have to be filmed so.
Who wants it anyway

I think they'd be better of just doing a complete CGI remake of the original trilogy, pixar-style. The old movies should be left was they were.

Or just ignore the films and get on with our lives, as frankly they suck compared to good films. I could use Brads fave word here, but I wont.

I Admittedly am not the biggest fan of Star Wars, nor sci-fi movies in general but there's no doubt they are top,top movies and nothing short of a phemomenon, the first one produced in the 70's,a golden era of cinema. From a similar genre then Romero what films do you think surpass these ones so much that these "suck" in comparison?

The writing would hardly win an award but for sheer entertainment, literally nothing beats the original Star Wars trilogy.
I cannot wait for the BD releases. I'm hoping for remastered original cuts (unlikelys) and also the 2004 cuts too (likely). They'd have to remaster the original trilogy to be able to release them on BD and I doubt Lucas has any time for doing that.

Blade Runner. 'nuff said.

Blade Runner is a bore.

Blade Runner is undeniably one of the greatest & most influential sci-fi films ever made.

The list would be very long if I listed all Sci Fi better than Star Wars

mind you they are great, I like them, but honestly they have aged badly, the acting at times is a joke and as far as entertainment goes they are bollocks compared to other far more exciting sci fi films. This year alone they have been demolished by countless other sci fi films.

I totally agree, it's bloody fantastic too. I've lost count of the amount of times I've seen it. It's my most watched film.

One minute they suck (even compared to other films), the next they're great?

Which ones?
They've not aged in the slightest for me. The writing has always been bad at times and the acting not always fantastic but it's never stopped me thoroughly enjoying them.

Star Wars is the perfect movie - one where everything comes together. That doesn't happen that often.
Best Sci-Fi movies off the top of my head -
10/10
Alien, Star Wars, 2001..
9.5/10
Moon, T2, Empire Strikes Back, Return of The Jedi..
9/10
The Thing, Superman (1978), Alien 3 (Restoration cut), Blade Runner, Starship Troopers...
8.5/10
Starman, THX-1138, Superman II (Theatrical cut)...
Someone will disagree with me of course.

Yup I disagree that anyone can even think Star Wars is one of the best films of all time. If you are 5 years old maybe.

Oh yes

I'd have Blade Runner with that too though.

List just 10 from all time and just 5 from this year then.

I can rarley even decide what the films of the year are, let alone listing 10 I love from all time, but off hand District 9, Transformers 2, Moon and Watchmen spring to mind as sci-fi better than SW from last year.
From all time many films I could name, but Aliens, T2 and The Abyss from Cameron, or Total Recal, Robocop and Starship Troopers from good old Paul all beat SW. Not exactly the same "type" of film mind you, but hey.
Do not get me wrong I aint saying SW is worthless, it has its place that is for sure. But for me it feels wrong thinking of it as anything but a fond childhood memory rather than the best of the best films of all time. Last time I watched the triology I liked it and really enjoyed it, but not something I want to watch once a year that is for sure, the silly CGI addage has also watered it all down a bit as well.

You say Star Wars has bad acting, then you cite Tranformers 2 as a better film? Okaaay!

By that logic, would only a 5 year old be right that The Wizard of Oz is a great movie?
Just because Star Wars isn't as adult in contant (or as brutal!) as say Robocop...doesn't mean it isn't just as good.
I rate them as both being 10/10 films.
