Re: Kick-Ass - Awesome Superhero Film - Trailer inside...
Looks interesting and fun, but the lack of a good villain (at least in the trailer) could hurt it.
We'll keep it on the radar.
We'll keep it on the radar.
I was there, the big BNB blackout of november, 2008. We lost many that day...

Some controversy regarding an 11 year old girl killing and swearing.
Brad will be pleased to know she utters his favourite 'C-word'.

Yeah, I think we all know kids swear. The problem seems to be with adults putting swearing in kids' mouths for entertainment value. I saw an interview in which the young actress said she wouldn't be allowed to talk like that off-screen. Is there a difference? Calling someone "a cunt" is calling someone "a cunt" whether it's on camera or not.
Also there's the issue of a child character shown shooting people in the head as a positive thing. In LEON Natalie Portman is surrounded by violence but never kills anyone. Reports suggest that KICK-ASS glamourises the violence doled out by kids. Now I love a good shoot-em-up as you all know but I'm uncomfortable with children actively taking part in murder. Would you let your daughter accept this role? I wouldn't.

You make a good point Mark. Portman's parents were apparently very strict and had to lay down conditions so she would get the part.
I know what you mean. It does seem a bit odd
But its not the first time children have been cast in more adult roles.
LEON is quite serious though compared to KICK-ASS which looks very tongue in cheek and a comedy, and Natalie says "fuck" in Leon (not the c word though).
And Natalie is never shown killing anyone, but she still has the desire to kill and be a hitman.

And you're a a parent! Would you let your daughter take that role? I don't understand why you wouldn't be concerned by morality. Is anything permissible as long as it's on film? I would have a hard time watching a preteen girl murder and swear her way thru a movie. Am I alone on this? The content of that trailer is unacceptable to me. And adults who support it are no less guilty of child corruption.saltysam wrote:This looks like a decent actioner.whether it's morals are dubious isn't an issue for me at least.looking forward to seeing it.
I believe she was 11 when they started filming and her character is supposed to be 11.grim_tales wrote: The girl who plays her is about 13 isn't she?
BBFC quote: "Although some people might be offended by a child using this type of language, the predominant effect is comic."
Hmm... I wonder if I called one of the examiner's young daughters a cunt, you know, for a laugh like, they'd find it comical?

Re: Kick-Ass - Awesome Superhero Film - Trailer inside...
She's calling the villains cunts, not just anyone. What if she called them a milder swearword? Come on Mark, children have been swearing in movies for years.
But its not the swearing or violence (even from HG) that concerns me, I did wonder if its right to make her look like that..? What if she was 16+? Think about it, when I first saw HG even I thought "If only she was a bit older, she's cute in a little assassin kind of way"
The pigtails, the big gun, talking dirty, the schoolgirl outfit.

Fucking hell Grim why not just watch the movie? why are you going into deep vein analysis over a film you haven't even seengrim_tales wrote:She's calling the villains cunts, not just anyone. What if she called them a milder swearword? Come on Mark, children have been swearing in movies for years.

That doesn't make it right. We all swear when we're kids. But we don't expect our parents to approve of us doing it. Not on camera or off. And especially not very strong sexual swearwords.grim_tales wrote:She's calling the villains cunts, not just anyone. What if she called them a milder swearword? I can't say that stuff crossed my mind because she's so young. She doesn't even look like a young woman. She's a pre-teen (or was when the film was shot). But its not the swearing or violence (even from HG) that concerns me, I did wonder if its right to make her look like that..? What if she was 16+? Re: Kick-Ass - Awesome Superhero Film - Trailer inside...
Stop being disingenuous. You know that's not where I was going with my comment. Would you as a responsible parent have allowed your daughter when she was 11 to play a character in which she used very strong language and shot people in the face and head. Simple question. Nothing to do with how old they are now.saltysam wrote:i am,and both are fine, upstanding young adults.what's your point? you would like me to ban my 22 year old daughter and 20 year old son from seeing the "15" rated Kick Ass maybe?
Why because I have standards on how children should behave? I have plenty films in my collection in which the word 'cunt' is used or in which people are shot full of holes. That's not the issue and it's not about censorship of what adults can see. I know you're purposely twisting what I'm saying to deflect my point. You are James Ferman Reincarnated and i claim my £5![]()
I don't understand about the £5.
You're purposely missing the point. There's no pointing even debating this if you can't do so maturely.it's a 15 rated actioner,go watch it and either like or dislike it..why bother yourself over whether a character utters a word thousands of girls utter day in day out??
