At least it means we shouldn't have to suffer a repeat of Spidey 3.

There's a very simple story peering out at us here: studio tells director to rush production to get film in theatres in one year, the director, still pissed off because he bowed down to producers on the previous film thus compromising that project, puts his foot down on this one and so the studio give him the boot. I don't see how that can possibly be an encouraging sign, the same producers who forced Raimi to re-invent pt.3 with an extra villian in the form of Venom will still be producing pt.4, only this time they'll get a marionette director with no vision, no grasp of themes, and no balls to stamp their own mark on the project.

There won't be a "Spider-Man 4". Apparently, it will rather be a "Spider-Man v2.0" as it focusses on a young Peter Parker who is still in high school as he always used to be in the comic books. It is supposed to be a dark, "gritty and contemporary" approach. They're trying the "Batman Begins" scheme as it seems. However, that scheme doesn't really fit to Spidey, your friendly neighborhood spider.

I'm not sure it'll work either.
Was Peter in college or high school in the cartoon? Can't remember. He seemed a bit old for high school to me.

That would be horrible, yeah. Batman is SUPPOSED to be dark and serious, but Spider-Man has always been lighthearted teenage drama with superhero stuff and lots of comedic elements...

They really should keep Spider-Man 'light'. I do like that they want to keep it focussed on the very young Spidey, instead of on mature Spidey, but they shouldn't go the Batman Begins route with it.

They're trying to do a Smallville/Batman Begins sort of thing but Spiderman, as Yi says, has a lighthearted comic style. OK it has darker themes in places but its not really that dark, as dark as Batman etc.

Peter Parker wasn't always a teenager in the comics, they progressed him into college for most of the comic's run. Speaking as someone who read Spiderman avidly as a kid in the 80s, throughout that decade he was at college and sharing a room with Iceman while the likes of Venom were introduced.

That's what I thought, he was at college in the 60's cartoon (I think) and the 90's cartoon.

Never was keen on Tobey Maguire,he just doesn't impress me.I Want to see a Green Arrow movie, screw Spidey  maybe Raimi will move on to that New Evil Dead movie he's been promising for years.

Nah, for now it seems he is concentrating on a "World of Warcraft" movie adaptation.
