Blu Ray lens cleaner question

Hey,
I haven't had any skipping trouble with my blu ray player yet but just in case I do, is this a good lens cleaner to buy? :)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Game-Blue-Ray-L ... 032&sr=8-1

I thought one of those ones that looked like a standard DVD seem the easiest.

I've never used a lens cleaner in my life and had no problems on any of my machines, are they really necessary?

Not even for a DVD player if it stutters?

It depends. My Mum's old DVD Player was near a fire (her new one is too), so was quite dusty. It worked a treat, when it stopped working once.

I've not encountered that problem on any player tbh.

I got one for my JVC player as they recommended a clean every 60 hours (or something).

Oh dear grim, you're so naive. Why do you think they say that? To sell you more cleaners. They're completely unneccesary.

Even if they were free I would not use them, as some acctually break peoples machines, that say's it all.

The old style ones, CD's with the little brushes on the base which go near the lens to suck/blow off dust (not even sure if they still use them things now) poke out a bit to far once in a blue moon, I have only heard a few cases of them being overly long and connecting with the sensative parts, but still another reason to stay away, why even risk it.

I don't think they sell those any more and IM is wrong, they're not "completely pointless", too much dust inside a CD/DVD/BD Player can cause havoc. Getting rid of that (without having to open the unit) easily fixes the problem. Most of the time they're a waste of time but not always.

That's all I'd want one for, and on the off chance it skips or something.

I sure as hell wouldn't want to open something still in warranty or probably otherwise too.

Well I have. Your point Salty? Dust in a VCR/DVD/CD/BD Player can all cause problems. A BD Player has the same basic concepts as a CD Player.

I've already got a DVD one and I'd re-use that, if the need be.

I didnt know you could reuse that, the lenses/brushes would be different right?

I don't think so, not really. A lens is a lens. Actually don't quote me on a BD Player as it uses a different laser but I doubt they differ wildly. CD/DVD is the same.

As long as you keep the tray clean there shouldn't be any need for lens cleaners.

You get enough dust/soot/whatever on a mechanical device. It will stop working. Simples.
