I'm thinking of getting a Freesat HD box to go with my TV (it hasnt been installed yet, theres a tuner in it), I was wondering if Humax Freesat PVR is the best? It seems to have very good reviews

Also noticed the Radio Times is doing an offer on a Goodmans box but isnt Goodmans cheap crap these days?

Yeah, we already have a Sky dish so going with that dish

The TV downstairs (that mum watches Sky on) with the Sky (non HD) box isnt HD ready.

I dont want to have to pay a monthly subscription so Freesat HD looks best IMO.

Can't you get an HD subscription pumped into your room? Seems daft having two rival formats. But maybe your solution is best. Just throwing it out there...

Have you confirmed the same dish is capable of outputting both Sky and Freesat? I'd imagine so but am unsure. And yes without a doubt, a Humax Freesat+ box is the way to go. No contest. Humax make the best Digi-boxes on the planet, so I'd imagine their HD ones are the same.

The Goodmans box is Freesat not Freesat+ is it not? You'd be insane to "pay" for a box which has no PVR capabilities.

Yes Brad you're right, the Goodmans is just Freesat and not Freesat+.
I got the Humax box the other day, dunno when someone will come and install it though.
As to whether the same dish will work, I'm pretty sure it will but whether it needs some more feeds on it (at least a twin/quad LNB) I'm not sure.

It will definitely need the LNB changing. Good work btw. Please LMK what you think of Freesat/Freesat HD/the Humax PVR. I'm waiting for Humax's Freeview HD PVR due sometime next year. Freeview HD box should be out any time now (but currently only a handful of places nationwide can pick it up).

I cannot get a dish (I'm renting) and think Freeview HD is the future. Once it's out, I can see Freesat struggling. Even though it has scope to surpass Freeview's aerial limitations.

New dish plus twin(?) or quad LNB I would imagine. Twin output LNB is the minimum right?

I guess so but don't worry about the technical aspects. That's great news. You won't know yourself with:

1. Freesat+
2. HD Broadcast TV
3. iPlayer on your TV

You have to buy another box for Freeview HD.

Grim's right. You need a Freeview HD box, PVR or TV in order to be able to watch FreeviewHD. Unless you specifically bought a TV with Freeview HD built in, it will be a Freeview SD tuner (despite the TV itself being HD Ready).

I might buy a box myself one day, depends on the price.
