Favourite opening and ending credits scenes
Favourite ending credits
1. Love & Pop (1998) (youtube)
2. The Little Girl Who Conquered Time (1983) (youtube)
3. Ohikkoshi (1993)
4. Kill Bill Vol. 2 (2004)
5. Life time achievement: Jackie Chan
+ Special mention: Gaichu (2001)
Favourite opening credits
1. The Executioner 2: Karate Inferno (1974) (youtube)
2. Saakitto no ookami (1977) (youtube)
3. School in the Crosshairs (1980) (youtube)
4. Watchmen (2009) (youtube)
5. Ninja in the Dragon's Den
I’m only listing three because right now I can't really think of anything else that is in the same league. There are some good ones of course, like The Graduate & Jackie Brown, Female Yakuza Tale, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, A Fistful of Dollars, Bullet in the Head, Se7en etc.
* I've included a couple of youtube links but naturally I don't recommend to click if you haven't seen the film.

Re: Favourite opening and ending credits
End credits:
3000 Miles to Graceland - Mediocre film, but the sight of the cast dancing around to one of my fave Elvis tracks has great appeal.
Austin Powers - BBC1...BBC2...BBC3.....
Opening credits:
Batman Returns - First Batman film I saw as a kid at the cinema and the music and imagery had me captivated immediately.
Dead Presdents - Another great example of Danny Elfman music set to the prophetic sight of burning money.
Hard Target - Great action sequence plays behind the credits.
The Hunted - Japanese drums and scrolling credits immediately grabbed my attention.
The Last Boy Scout - So cheesy it's hilarious
Reservoir Dogs - Iconic, really.

Re: Favourite opening and ending credits
Classic Brad ignorance. They are credits, yes. They are scenes as well. Could be some of the best scenes ever created. My end list number 3 is a good example of a complicated long take. 99% of directors have never created a scene as good, credits or not.bradavon wrote:WTF! And I thought I was a film geek. Lets remove the out takes from all Jackie Chan films, shall we. They are of no importance since they are (usually) just end credits, right?

That's different. You said "end credits" not "scenes featured in end credits"HungFist wrote:Classic Brad ignorance. They are credits, yes. They are scenes as well.
If it's so good, why put it in the end credits?HungFist wrote:Could be some of the best scenes ever created. My end list number 3 is a good example of a complicated long take. 99% of directors have never created a scene as good, credits or not.
The amount of discussion end credits get on this forum is crazy (e.g - every time ABT is mentioned). Who gives a fuck? They're there to serve a technical function. Sure I've been known to have a read but I'm not about to wank over them.

My favourite end credits are for The Darjeeling Limited, I sat all the way through them at the cinema, just lovely.

Re: Favourite opening and ending credits
Scenes featured in end credits? As if they were two separate things (the text and the video) slapped on top is each other.bradavon wrote:That's different. Because it's the ending credits scene. It's not a part of the storyline, but it's just as important as any random scene in the film. Many movies would be worse if you cut out the end credits scene. Gaichu is a good example. Although the end credits are nothing but a black screen with white text, you can still hear the final scene going on on the soundtrack. If you cut out the end credits, the film would end abrupty.bradavon wrote:If it's so good, why put it in the end credits?HungFist wrote:Could be some of the best scenes ever created. Brad, remember what I said to you a few days ago about you trolling threads with deliberately contrary arguments? You're doing it again, everyone knew what Hung was going on about in his OP and any film fan with half a brain cell knows that opening/ending credits sequences can be highly important and stylised scenes in themselves, so please stop your moaning.

Re: Favourite opening and ending credits scenes
The opening scene/credits of a film are very important
Theyre part of the movie just like the end credits are.

Origins: Spirit of the Past has a fantastic openin credits sequence.
Hayao Miyazaki also does great opening/closing credits.
Trainspotting's opening credit sequence is pretty iconic and much copied.

Forgot Watchmen from the op list. The scene is better than any other scene in the film, although it's a good film overall as well.

Shing, is the Angel Heart ending credits scene as good as I recall? I would've put it on my list, but it's been too long since I last saw the film...

I like it, but it's nowt fancy I guess; good sound design more than anything else Mickey rourke in a lift descending down, presumably to you-know-where.
