Should Abortions be limited to 20 weeks?

Post by Markgway »

The Conservatives say 'Yes'. The religious groups have come out in support. I happen to agree. But what do you think? At 24 weeks a foetus is a person and mnay premature babies can go on to live normal lives at this stage. Isn't it wrong to abort them?

I exempt exceptional medical circumstances: physical (if the baby will have a poor quality of life if at all; if the mother is at serious risk) or psychological (the pregnancy is the result of a rape; the mother is suicidal).

But other than these the weeks limit should be reduced. I would say much lower than 20 weeks, but it's a start.

Firstly as long as we don't go the American route where I hear Bush wants to ban abortion completely I'm not "that" bothered.

Secondly I disagree to me at least a baby is not a life until it's born or to let me clarify until it is a being. I'm sorry but I disagree when people say a foetus is a life. A foetus is a foetus, one in the first stages of life it's not there yet.

I also take the view: A) the world is already overridden with people do anymore need to be born? I'm strongly for adoption and B) What life will a child have growing up with family after family because the mother felt the need to give the baby up for adoption (which in itself I'm for if the mother is not able to look after the child).

Lastly bloody hell 24 weeks is 6 months. I didn't know it was that long. The women and/or couple really should know by then whether they want the baby.
