The Future of BnB (or keeping BnB on life support)

Post by Lourdes »

So Mordib/Luke the sites owner has nothing to do with this place to the point that he once didn't bother to renew the domain thinking it wasn't in use. I believe there have been other downtimes that were resolved slowly as a consequence of this too.

I'd like to ask him to transfer the domain name to me and along with that I'd move the site from where he currently hosts it to one of my hosts. Reason being that even if I'm not active here I'll be able to ensure the site stays up and resolve any issues swiftly. There may be nobody left but there's no way we can let it die.
Currently I have access to the sites backend anyway and I gave Shingster the details for creating regular backups to my host in case of disaster. This is just a further step.

If I have time I ought to update the software and perhaps add a front page if anyone would actually bother to write news/reviews/articles - but I make no promises beyond keeping the site up and responding to any issues. I'm also not going to a be a mod/admin although I may occasionally need to make myself one for technical reasons. I doubt I'll even be around much at all. :)

I would ask for a small PayPal collection to cover the cost of domain transfer and extending the registration a few years. And possibly this time next year a little towards the hosting bill. Alas, I'm a student these days and it's a life of Tesco Value or I'd cover it all myself. But I'll keep it up without contributions if necessary.

So let me know your opinions. If there are a few yays and no nays I'll send Luke an email. There shouldn't be any downtime in a change, I'll sort out a redirect at the old host if some peoples DNS is slow to update.

Sounds good to me.

I'm ready to invest a few Euros to keep this site up.

About the front end possiblity: I've always thought that Hung's constant posting of cult/exploitation/arthouse titles is a little wasted on such a small forum, perhaps he'd be interested in moving these to a front page and we could sort of base the front end reviews around his work with input from others whenever they're willing?

That's a possibility but I can't promise anything. I have a small change in my life ahead in a few months and I don't really know how things will be. But I'm interested.

It's not necessary, but it's nothing dramatic and won't change anything except to put control closer to the community. Mostly it means I'm more likely to work on the place as I'll see it each time I connect to administer my other sites. :o

Don't worry. I've heard sex change operations have a 99% success rate. :D

I was also thinking that if you had a dedicated site to post your reviews on, you could also try contacting distributors like Synapse etc about recieving review copies! I think a couple of them may be interested anyway!

I admit I don't read Hung Fist's reviews because those films aren't my cup of tea, but it seems a shame not to put them to better use.

But I want to buy Synapse's releases. Their sales are too low

Okay, now I will shut the fuck up because I'm wrecking this thread faster than the Brad fight ever could've.
