Does anyone know why the UK cases are fatter than the American ones? I haven't bought any UK BDs yet but I'm thinking they'll sit unevenly on my shelf alongside the slimmer US imports. Why couldn't they standardise the size? Also what do other countries use?

I don't know why Mark but they sit perfectly fine next to US cases, as beyond the width of their spine they are the same proportions.

You can buy the slimmer cases from Ebay and some online stores.don't know if the uk covers fit in them ok though.

It's actually America slim, elsewhere fat. They're the same in Australia. No big deal IMO. It's probably down to where they source the cases. I prefer the slim ones but no big deal.

The slim ones feel cheaper to me, but meh.

I prefer the slim cases simply because I can fit more on my limited shelf space! :P

Lol... that was my logic too.

There just doesn't seem to be any reason for the UK cases to be thicker.

I saw a music BD in-store that had a thin case. I think it was a German import. Sometimes you get German music imports for some reason. Never anywhere else... lol

The UK version of The Shawshank Redemption has a slim case. I was quite pleasantly surprised when I opened my snail-mail.

I think the single-disc release of Casino Royale was a slim case as well, not sure if it was as slim as US cases mind but the one Sony sent me in their free blu-ray deal was definitely slimmer than an ordinary UK case.

I also much prefer the slim cases, I could understand the point in the thicker ones if Blu-rays actually had info booklets/leaflets inside them like many DVDs do, but they almost always have nothing!

They do use them sometimes. Eureka and Artificial Eye use the slim ones, as did Tartan. As Shing says Casino Royale UK is also slim.

By that token VHS cases are even better? ;).

Americans are fat, they need more room for food, so they downsized the size of the boxes so they can get more grub in their homes.

I'd guess Brits comparatively are as fat as Americans nowadays.
