Thanks Chen for pointing out Funimation is proper resolution(852x480)
BCI is progressive and has better extras content wise(although, videophiles will dock points on the amatuer sounding audio and recording job on the interviews) as well as no sub re-translation. KF HD Channel version has the coveted english dub that some want but picture wise is interlaced. I dont know if the picture is like this due to it being ripped from the HD Channel to dvd-r? No subs on the KF HD Channel or translations of chinese text that appears(is this considered slates or is that strictly related toward dvds?). You will see that the KF HD Channel screencap looks much smaller than the IVL and BCI(Chen any idea why this may be?). Funimation has no extras, however, is progressive, & same subs but different font/positioning as previous versions. It's only saving grace is the English dub for those that want it(therefore, making the KF HD Channel pointless). Almost seems like Funimation retained some of the saturation that you see in the IVL version sans the interlacing. BCI the better version of the 4, despite some flaws, followed by the Funimation version.

Excellent comparison that points out a number of things. Thanks Olde!
Ordinarily, an improved Shaw DVD (from the same master) would have more info at the sides, but oddly, the inferior IVL has more! Even more strange, the video looks a lot different (less saturation)! It's light evidence suggests the film was put through the rounds twice, unless BCI's transfer from the HD PAL D5 master got a inferior result which caused the film to be cropped and less saturated.
No prob.
I personally like the higher saturation on the IVL but the progressive picture on the BCI was a no brainer for me. I also like the IVL main menu better than the BCI, despite the BCI menu having a montage playing. BCI has a much classier dvd case cover despite it having a dash of Xenon look to it
I don't know much about HD, so I couldn't answer why it's happened. The DVD must have captured the image in the correct proportions, so it ended up non-anamorphic?
I think the Funimation is only progressive because the transfer was done by BCI (like Opium). You shouldn't, however, expect the same luxory from their other releases.

I do, but i haven't opened it yet. Probably wont get around to it for awhile. I know from reading on KFC, that this is the same English Dub quality that was on the Siren release(which isn't the best but is passable for the average consumer)
I have the German DVD of Invincible Shaolin which is rather soft and interlaced. Wouldn't mind upgrading for the dub - I've heard the Siren and its just about passable.

Although, this isn't indicative, judging by the caps for Life Gamble, i'd imagine the Funimation of Invincible Shaolin will look like the IVL in terms of saturation but should be correct resolution and progressive. I don't have the Siren or IVL version of Invincible Shaolin to give a proper comparison and doubt anybody here would be bothered to post it.
I get so confused on this technical matter. So if i were to play the IVL and Funimation disc at the same time on separate standalone dvd players, will they display @ the same size?
