I found Ringu scary, not right through but the ending was well creepy.

I'm sure I'll pick this up at some point. I've been waiting long enough. I am pretty bored of Ringu thrillers though. Most are Ringu but with a different name.

Kairo is worth seeing, as it's not just a remake. I need to pick up A Tale of Two Sisters which I hear is very good and clever too.

"A Tale of Two Sisters" is great! One of the better recent Asian horror flicks, because it comes with a solid storyline.
