Some caps don't show much difference (for BD vs DVD)

A couple do reveal greater sharpness and clarity.

Are we talking very good DVD or not so good BD?

The BD was one of the early ones and is MPEG2 on a single layer. So it's not much good really and the particular shots Tom chose don't really show things off much.

Wide shots show a big increase in detail (cap 3).
Not much of a difference in close-ups, however (cap 4).

I'd say: Good DVD and average BD.
Better to wait for a better encode (AVC or VC1).

The BD looks like it's worth it, despite not being perfect.

If its cheap that is, as you can get the dvd for what? £2 now. I will keep my standard set.

I'll wait for the eventual double-dip (if it's remastered with a decent codec). This is one Liongate's flagship catalogue titles afterall, another BD release will come.

Optimum/Momentum may very well put out a Studio Canal master-based release in the mean time.

You can get the current BD for under a tenner so maybe not worth worrying about if a remaster does come along some time. Not like we're talking about one of Fox's silly $40 vanilla jobs.

This is getting released by Studio Canal in France and Optimum (Studio Canal) in The UK in August:
