I wonder if Cage will get his wang out and cry like a baby whilst mimicing Jesus?

What a bizarre film to remake. It's so un-Hollywood. No doubt it will be watered down. I just cannot see how they can remake this without making it shit.
Nicholas Cage is a ridiculous choice too.

Can't be any worse than Wicker Man and Next.

Didn't Cage promise to stop acting?

I don't think so. He's a good actor, when given the right material.

If Cage's hair is fine, the movie will be fine. If it looks ridiculous, the movie will end up being a laughfest.

Things are looking quite good for this one. I hear it's a return to his "Leaving Las Vegas" type work. I wonder why they bothered even calling it Bad Lieutenant.

Saw this last night in London.
Exceptionally good film. I watched with a group of close friends and we were all totally enchanted by the style and content. Cage was perfect and it stands out as one of the best films of the year without doubt.
Very happy.
EDIT: I'm loving reading the reviews online of how oft. misunderstood and poorly received this was (it seems a love hate film for the mainstream audience). Inevitable comparisons to the original - mostly from fans that take offence that a film could be made again but different. How shocking!!
I could understand people could just not 'get it', but for me, it is a 10/10 film

I read he was forced to call it Bad Lieutenant. It wasn't the directors choice. As usual, the studio knows shit. I've heard nothing but good things critically about it. I bet it would've done a lot better without the needless Bad Lieutenant title.

The UK poster is one of the best of the year:
I think the title and photo sell the film very well.

Good poster, wrong title. It makes it look like a remake which will turn some off. Didn't it only get a limited UK release? That wouldn't help either. It also came months after the USA DVD was released.

Is it not a remake?

I honestly don't know for sure - some say the connection is the title only.
Never seen the original as far as I can remember...

No. It's more a sequel but even then not according to the director, other than sharing thematic elements. The original is very good, about a bad cop who seeks redemption.

Not a remake in any sense of the word

still I did not get the film much, it washed over me and is fairly forgettable now. Not a film I will even remember in 6 months time, or even want to see again.
Still better than most films

if I ever see it for a few quid on Blu Ray I may give it a whirl in many years time.

Romero says he never wants to see it again then contradicts himself

Why isn't it? Plenty of Blu-rays are a few quid.
