Surprised to see a blockbuster like Ben Button get a Criterion release (though they did it with Armageddon). I'll probably get Yojimbo/Sanjuro and definitely Charade.

I've had it on DVD for ages. It's good then?

Well when we had to study it at college it annoyed me a bit (mainly the music), but just lately I've been enjoying the recent Godard Blu-ray releases so I feel I'm up for another go, I'm almost certain I'll like it a lot more now, tastes change and that :)

Yeah it annoys me how it's hard to find Criterion BD's under the customs limit.

Ditto. They're just obscenely expensive. Great quality but still, come on.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas coming April 26th. Cool, I've wanted to see this for ages so this BD can be my excuse.

I'll think about it when it goes for HALF that price. And not before.

I think its too expensive at the moment too but no way will a Criterion go for $15.

Agree, anything under £20 for these seem to be a result.stupidly expensive,i imagine they'd shift a lot more copies by selling them cheaper.Still the presentation is good,i'll be getting Blow Out definitely.

I recently ordered Videodrome for just under £20 including shipping (Amazon Market) and also got Charade for slight over (Playtrade).

I don't see what makes Criterion so special that they can charge waaaay more than everyone else - even similar specialist labels who go the extra mile (ie. Blue Underground). It's like they charge more because it's expected of them and 'it's OK, it's Criterion, you know!' I'm sure an MGM BD (that would soon be down to under $10) would've sufficed.

I wonder if the Criterion will have a piece that compares Blow Out with the the similar Blow Up?

@ Mark: I think that's exactly why they overcharge. They'd rather sell hundreds, instead of thousands. It's the exact same thinking Apple use. Good kit but way overpriced. You can get some fantastic Windows 7 laptops, that easily compete for quality but much cheaper.

It's exactly why they charge those prices and fair play to them if the market is there for their pricepoints! Producing Blu-rays of niche titles is not exactly a lucrative business, if more labels could get away with that over here then you'd be seeing a lot more arthouse/world cinema classics on the format!

It kinda sucks when that's all there is though. So you either have to shell out for a Criterion BD or get nothing. I can see myself keeping my MGM DVD which is anamorphic and has the orignal stereo track. It's fine to cater to more affluent collectors but not if it entirely excludes those with less cash to flash.
