Note1: Yes, I know this comparison has already been made. But hey, one more can't hurt.
Note2: The Blu-Ray has a slight audio sync issue (at least mine does). The sound is late by about 0.05 seconds.

If you're not sensitive to this type of issue, you won't even notice it.
But if you are, it will drive you nuts (unless you have a way to fix it).

- The BD transfer is a bit soft, yes, but that's exactly what IA looked like when I saw it in the theater 4 years ago.
I suspect it has more to do with how the film was shot than how the print was scanned.
- The BD transfer looks brighter than its UK counterpart, and it's not setup-related. It really is brighter.

If all you've got is the Tartan disc, buy the BD. It's a real eye-opener.

What do you mean by soft? It's a very grainy film that looks a little overexposed, I'd call it harsh if anything.
By the way if you're going to create a duplicate comparison you don't need to remove "Blu-ray" from the link to the original in the sticky.

What settings were you using? I found the last cap from this with the ones I use for comparisons (except decoder) and it was very close.

If there's no fine detail in a transfer, I call it "soft".

I didn't.
The "Blu-Ray tag" is something that I came up with fairly recently, so old comparisons (before march 2008) don't have it.

Same as you, AFAIK.
MPC internal AVC decoder and Haali renderer (unsure about the settings on that one).

Did you notice the A/V sync issue BTW?

Done with the same settings, yeah I think we're good. Leave Haali as default (-0.61, auto and TV).

Seems like the sharpness setting in Haali doesn't do anything.
You've got -0.61, I've got -0.00, and we've got the same result.

I never actually noticed the setting before it before but it seems -0.61 is the default. I did some reading and that setting only comes into play when upscaling so it doesn't matter for us.
