New UK Distributor

Post by Risk »

Sorry if this has been posted before but I've just come across a new (to me) UK distributor:

Have any of you guys purchased any of their releases? They seem to have a lot of Korean titles. Any recommendations?

I don't think it's been posted before. I've known about them for a while but they're not released anything I really want to see.

Their "Guns & Talks" DVD annoyingly only has DD2.0 which means to me anyway it's to be avoided. Their "Friend" DVD looks good (Korean DD5.1 this time) but it's beaten by the fully English subtitled 2 Disc SE Scandinavian DVD I already own.

Like Cine-Asia (Showbox) they look to be interesting, but need to be making more effort with outfits like Optimum (UK) and DD (USA) creating such decent releases.

1 Disc releases with the odd extra doesn't exactly fill me with joy.

If you are just after the film and not too bothered about extensive extras then they are generally good from my experiences with them.

I've had their release of PTU, Teenage Hooker Became A Killing Machine and Friend, as they've been good enough to send me advance copies for reviewing on my website :D (having a website finally paid off!!)

I don't think their DVD RRPs are that high (correct me if I'm wrong there), so if it is just the film you are after then they are definitely worth a look.

So the PQ is good? How does it compare to say DD releases? Are they NTSC to PAL? Interlaced or Progressive?

Thanks.

I've been happy with the picture quality. Teenage Hooker was an abysmal film and it wasn't originally made with a great PQ, so it doesn't look that great on their DVD, but I imagine it wouldn't be too far off the original materials.

Not got any DD titles to compare.

PTU and Friend from what I gather are all pure PAL transfers, not NTSC to PAL. On their forum the owner guy, Adam Torel, has said they are new PAL transfers. And no idea if they are interlaced or progressive.

Thanks Degeneration. That's good to hear they're using Native PAL Masters.
