That Welsh girl has an excellent singing voice, reminds me of Amy Winehouse, minus the ghastly person and lifestyle.

Also she's uber-cute.

She is good isn't she. I'm waiting to hear another song before deciding to buy her album. She sounds very similar to Dusty Springfield, which is good.

Rockferry and Mercy are very good. I didn't like Warwick Avenue so much. All are on Youtube.

The albums ok, nothing blew me away (yet), but it passes by well thats for sure :)

Not gave it much time yet, as there are far better artists who deserve more fame whome I am listning to as they are better :D

Still Duffys better than the crap in the charts at the moment.

Mmm well

Brandi Carlile
Gabriella Cilmi
Amy MacDonald
Nicole Atkins
Sara Bareilles
Siobhan Donaghy
Cat Power

I could go on and on :D plenty of underated female artists out there still with new albums, some get hits, some dont even get in top 100.

Not that I am slaggin Duffy, she is good, just dont expect a full album of stonking songs.

Amy MacDonald is very good and her album was at number 1. I bought it months before she was big though. I've not heard of the rest, except for Siobhan Donaghy.

Has Siobhan Donaghy done anything decent since she left the Sugababes?

Thanks though. I'll take a look.

Cat Power is already pretty mainstream. Excellent singer.

Siobhan Donaghy, the cute ginger whom used to be in Sugababes? I probably would've distanced myself from that tripe too.

Sara Bareilles - I saw that single of her's on TV. It was utterly cuttie-cutter singer-songwriter pop.

They used to be really good but over the past few years have become very watered down. They're nothing like they once were. I've stopped buying their albums.

I bet that's why Mutya Buena left too.

Listen to one of her albums, she is pretty amazing. Leaving the bloody Sugababes was the best thing that happened to her, still the big radio stations in the UK refuse to play her music, so she will never ever do well.

Its pathetic when big music stations hold a grudge agaisnt someone and will never play a song, even if it went to number 1. Radio 1 esspecially are an evil music staion in the UK.

Instead they go on about that piece of promo Mutya Buena

I'd imagine Siobhan Donaghy has less commercial (note: samey) value to Mutya Buena, so they won't touch her. It's an oddity of life that if you're too interesting most people won't be interested, just look at how much crap makes stacks in cinemas.

Cat Power sounds interesting. I'm not sure I like the idea she sings so many covers though. Although I'm keen to hear her cover of Joni Mitchell's Blue. I've had to download that.

Which Cat Power album is critically considered the best?

Romero where do you hear about these artists? You should check out Stevie Ann's debut album, it's really good and I reckon up your alley:

Her second (current) album isn't as good.

I go on a few forums and always keep my eyes open, go to plenty of sites and generally just listen out for anything similar to my tastes, or if someone says this is like this artist etc..

But I ussually dont buy the album, I download them. Yes its illegal, but if it is good I will then go out and buy it :) many artists I would never dreamt of buying ever! but downloading and trying them out to see if its to your taste if great I think.

For instance Nightwish, a nasty finish goth classical metal band thingie, I would never have bought an album by them ever, now I love them becuase I downloaded their music, loved it and buy their music and pay to see them live now, so its good for them in the end :D

I nearly always buy the good albums, if its crap I would not bother even keeping it if I downloaded it. So to me downloading is good for them for someone like me who is wliing to buy an album here and there (I own plenty of real ones).

Duffy for instance while the Mercy single was great, I never expected the album could be that good for every song and I was right, but it will be worth me buying when the price lowers as no way I pay £10 for an album I do not love.

Places like CDWOW really help me buy them cheap, as does Ebay once in a while.

Problem is many of the artists I like the albums neevr go down in price!

and yes Siobhan Donaghy is insane by the way, her music is very out there at times, adding to why she is not big. But her album last year "Ghosts" was probibly in my top 5 albums of last year, bloody amazing.

If everyone did this I'd too not see a problem with it at all. The trouble is many people never pay for music any more.

Then you have people like Yi-Long with their completely deranged view that because 5-10 people may have worked on an album it should be free but because hundreds work on a film it's understandable to charge for it.

I'm using other sites than CD WOW at the moment to buy music, www.music-wow.com for instance can be very good. I rarely buy new albums off eBay as I can usually get them reasonable priced anyway new.

I was annoyed to find Sheryl Crow's latest album comes in a piece of paper as a cover. I bought one for my Dad for his birthday and it was more of a digi-pack (but it had nowhere to put the booklet) and a second for me from elsewhere and came in the most flimsy piece of paper. I went into WH Smiths to buy it for my Dad (I was running out of time) and they wanted £13. £13! It's half that online.

Thanks for the info on the female artists. I'll have a listen. I tend to much prefer female to male singers, overall. I'm listening to Cat Power's latest album now. It's pretty good. It hasn't drawn me in big time yet.

Download Stevie Ann's - Away From Here. I reckon you'll like it.

Probibly sounds silly but I find amazon.coms recomended buying and what others have bought bars at the bottom work well for similar tastes :D

I am currently downloading tonnes of similar artists who I have never heard of in my life, if they are crap so be it, but you never know what gems are out there. If they are that good I will pay my cash gladly :)

Stevie Ann will add :)

I don't like her current/second album (Closer To The Heart) as much but the debut is excellent. I think it's the sort of music you'd like.

We seem to have similar(ish) tastes in music. I don't listen to too much new music as I cannot appreciate it properly if I try and listen too to much at the same time.

I can understand why Duffy's voice wouldnt be to everyone's taste. Rain on My Parade is OK, sounds like it has a certain cod retro style (if you get what I mean).

Her voice can grate if you are not in that mood for her.

Still she looks nice, even if she does slap on her makeup with a shovel! she looked like a ghost when I saw her, and very cold too haha

He was aiming up her skirt and missed.

She's nothing special to look at. Not ugly, just ordinary.
