Just wondering where TWC was in terms of HD distribution. I mean, Dragon Dynasty could be the first to release the Fortune Star collection in HD along with the Shaws, not to mention their recent theatrical releases, such as Halloween and The Mist. Were they waiting for a "victory" in the HD format war, or are they just taking their sweet time in general? Here's hoping they start distributing on Blu-Ray by the time Dragon Dynasty finally gets the Bruce Lee films

They released a handful of HD-DVDs, but they seem to be laying low, like Universal and Paramount getting into BD. It's weird isn't it.

I find it particularly weird Paramount haven't got into BD. They only have a handful of HD-DVDs to re-release, it will take Universal years. I cannot see DD releasing on BD any time soon, their market is relatively small.

You might be right about DD, but at least some of the more "sure thing" titles could work. And wasn't Paramount initially HD-DVD and Blu-Ray? I remember the big-ass controversy when Transformers was making its way into the home market for all three formats, when suddenly Paramount made the leap to HD-DVD only, and tossed Transformers on Blu-Ray to the curb.

As for TWC, it's odd for a bigger company to just be sitting on the sidelines now. Hell, even independent companies like BCI have been releasing Blu-Ray discs, such as their Sister Street Fighter double feature.

In a somewhat related note, I found "The Protector" (aka, the HIGHLY bastardized version of Tom Yum Goong) in HD on Comcast OnDemand. Good lord, the grain on that film was giving me a migraine. One of the downsides of HD, I suppose. Well, apparently TWC (and in a certain respect, Dragon Dynasty) has been putting some effort into HD, just not HD discs.

Much better than applying loads of DNR and thus destroying all the fine detail.

Yeah, but this transfer, even with the grain, didn't have as much detail as I'd hope. Then again, this may go back to the film stock used.

EDIT: I watched part of this again, and while it does look better than watching an upconverted DVD, it still doesn't have the detail it should... yet is has the grain that SHOULD accompany a detailed image. Even in the daytime sequences, which should have minimal grain in comparison. Oh well, can't complain too much... I'll leave the complaints to the English dub. I could swear one of the voice actors dubbed Jackie Chan in the New Line releases of Police Story 1 and 2!
