I'm interested in Halloween and Dawn of the Dead. I'm not sure Halloween is good enough to upgrade my DVD though. I don't want to upgrade everything.

Day of the Dead and Dawn are must buys, and the best films.

Its is getting tempting to get a Blu Ray player, the price is right thats for sure at the moment.

Serious question: I presume you mean the price is right if you only want Profile 1.0? I've not seen any Profile 1.1 or 2.0 for under £300-400. I've no idea how much the PS3 is though.

It great to see Dawn, Day and Halloween all have:

English PCM 5.1 (4.6 Mbps)
English Dolby Digital 5.1 (640 Kbps)
English Dolby Digital 1.0 mono (192 Kbps)

So everyone is catered for. All look to have not all but some very meaty extras too.

Yup I meant PS3

the UK price can be had for £250 now (if you use discounts and get no games etc...) which is a bargain. It is region locked, thats still holding me back a bit. But plenty of Region free titles. Sadly I want American player as frankly USA prices are far cheaper still for discs.

Still I am getting closer to getting a PS3, or even a real player if they come good soon.

and as far as Anchor Bay dvds go latley some have massive amounts of sountracks on them, so its no suprose they include them all for HD version, the dvd versions have even more soundtracks!

How much are USA PS3s? I'd only be interested in a USA model. The Panasonic BDM-50 is likely to be decent but will cost much more than the PS3.

I wish other studios catered for everyone.

I believe the Panasonic BDM-50 is likely to be closer to £400-450. I "think" the Panasonic BDM-30 (Profile 1.1) is £300-350.

I would consider DAWN of the DEAD, but I have the 4-disc UE.

No way am I losing all that extra material, 3 versions of the film, when the BD has only the TC.

You just know ABE will bring out an UE BD at some point.

Nothing is stopping you keeping both. It's not like you have a lot of DVDs anyway. Besides isn't the best cut the DC?

I've no need to own every cut of a movie and the BD looks to have very good extras, so what if some are missing? It will be ages before Anchor Bay re-release the BD. With the odd exception we're not at the stage where studios are ready to re-release their BDs.

I've just bought the virtually bare bones and Theatrical Cut King Kong HD-DVD. I will be selling the 3 Disc Extended Cut DVD. I'm not at all bothered I'm losing those extras. When Universal re-release King Kong as a BD SE I'll likely pick that up and sell the HD-DVD. I don't like doing it again and again on the same title but the odd time is okay. I'll likely either get the re-release for free or the sale of the old one will go some way to covering the costs of the re-release so either it's big deal.

If the King Kong HD-DVD had some decent extras I doubt I'd bother. Dawn of the Dead BD is out now. I'd pick it up if I wanted it. It looks like a great release as it is and for me anyway already has enough decent extras.

I know, but it bugs me ABE have put so little effort into their "upgrade". Maybe if I had a BD player RIGHT NOW I'd have given it a go, but as I don't I'm happy to wait as I'm sure a better edition will come along.

Debateble. There are things about the extended cut that I like.

I do intend on buying a BD player - but won't rush into overpaying or winding up with something out-of-date before it's plugged in. If a BD disc is cheapish there's no harm buying in advance and $12.98 + postage isn't bad.

I'd say Anchor Bay have puts in lot of effort into these releases. They all have decent PQ, Audio so everyone is happy (Mono, Lossy 5.1 + Lossless 5.1) and Meaty looking extras.

The only multi-disc HD release I can think of is Blade Runner. The market overall isn't there yet for expensive multi-disc HD releases, just look at how many TV shows have been released on HD.

Obviously AB are going to re-release this but I cannot see it being any time soon. I cannot see it to mid next year earliest. Otherwise fair enough.
