Quality of MeiAh remasters?
Could I please get some impressions on the quality of the MeiAh remastered discs? I wanna pick up a few titles (particularly Full Alert and God of Gamblers 1), but want a little feedback before I take the plunge.
1. The subs any good?
2. The 5.1 remixes any good? Any replaced SFX like FS releases?
3. How do the transfers fair?
Cheers.

Re: Quality of MeiAh remasters?
Havne't actually seen those two titles... but from what I gather the Mei Ah RM is the best available edition of God of Gamblers. Full Alert would be if it wasn't, reportedly, missing a short scene with Chin Ka Lok. The old release is uncut.
To generalise:
The subs are usually "acceptable", except Swordsman II which appears to be particularly poorly translated.
The 5.1 mixes are more like what HKL used to do rather than the travesties inflicted upon us by Fortune Star and Celestial. Most of the discs offer Mono tracks where applicable.
The transfers are usually very good. I've got A Queer Story on my trading list. Watched it a couple of nights ago and it looked pretty good to my unexpert eye.

I only have the remastered Fight Back to School 2.
I was very pleasantly surprised by AV quality, especially compared to FBTS1 which I have in the old edition.
Very little print damage, correct aspect ratio, a sharp anamorphic transfer (with some grain, but otherwise quite good).
The subs still contain several errors, but at least they are not burnt on the print.

They're no worse than the original release right?Markgway wrote:The subs are usually "acceptable", except Swordsman II which appears to be particularly poorly translated.
I thought the 5.1 would be closer to the FS releases than HKL in the surrounds? Hard Boiled definitely is. It's far more lively.

From what I've heard... some improvements, some bits worse. But the A/V quality makes it the best version regardless.bradavon wrote:They're no worse than the original release right?
Don't know about HB, but I was under the impression that these remixes had no new foley effects or music. That's what I meant by more like HKL. As to the actual quality of the mixes, maybe the Mei Ahs are livelier? But the FS remixes are crap. Remixes are evil. :twisted:I thought the 5.1 would be closer to the FS releases than HKL in the surrounds? Hard Boiled definitely is. It's far more lively.

Is anyone keeping tabs of what's coming out? Is there a list anywhere?
It looks really good to me. I notice everyone is moaning over at the ADVDG forum but come on compared to the competition.
