I was a Transformers guy as a child. The only ever G.I. Joe action figure I had was given to me as gift.

Seriously, who expects this to be any good? Big 80's toy license + hack popcorn blockbuster director = Transformers Redux. Whatever, at least it gives Darth Maul some much needed film work.

I never liked Transformers as a kid, and I quite liked GI Joe, although TBH I was more of a MASK fan, and superhero-nerd.
I did have a bunch of GI Joe toys and crap and all that... still in my attic.

Anyway, no idea what to expect from a live-action GI Joe movie.

I keep saying this with all these kinds of movies, but they should just make it completely CGI so you can stay much closer to the original characters (design-wise), and arent limited, budget-wise, with planes and choppers and all that other expensive crap you'd need for a movie like this.

If this was announced as a CGI movie I would actually be excited. Right now, I have more of a 'mehhhhhhhh.... we'll see.... no high hopes...' kinda attitude.

I was a big "Action Force" fan (as it was known in the UK) when I was a wee nipper. My aunt used to work in a factory that produced the figures, so every week she'd pop over with a bag full of figures that hadn't been boxed or anything yet. Used to love the cartoon films, but haven't revisited them like I have done Transformers The Movie though.

Snake Eyes was actually my fave character, IIRC his backstory was that he was disfigured in an explosion, hence the mask and the fact he never spoke. Those pictures look pretty much spot on as to how he looked, but no, i'm not expecting this film to be any good.

GI Joe is the American name for Action Man right? I too had an Action Man. Although He-Man was my real hero as a kid.

As to the film it looks uber shit and I seriously doubt it will be anything but uber shit.

I sure I remember him being called GI Joe over here.

Still he did make Deep Rising, his best film by a lightyear, still a brilliant monster movie. But that was before he became the king of poor CGI blockbusters, and ideas.

That's because the entire GI Joe thing in america is ludicrously complicated, with various different ranges of toys. The film Sommers is making is based on the range of small figures that were a lot like the original Star Wars figures, and they were originally released in the U.K under the name of Action Force.

Captain Action is the best ! Make a movie featuring him ! you bought him then could change him into Batman,Superman,Spiderman etc. way cool !

I saw the old GI Joe film the other week and it was a bit confusing cause it didn't make any allowances for those who wern't familiar with the show. Wasn't very good either.

I did have on tape one episode (under the Action Force banner) called Sink The Montana, which was very well written. Interestingly the episode stops part way through for toy adverts for the series, which I understand is how Gi Joe and Transformers were broadcast in America

Like Brad, I prefer the He-Man and She-Ra shows to the Hasbro stuff - its more fun and genuinly funny. The movie Secret Of The Sword was just episodes of the She-ra series stitched together and shoved out onto the cinemas, but the later Dolph Lundgren film is a lot better than its reputation suggests, and probably the only decent film Cannon ever churned out

Transformers first season was weak tea and I don't think it got into a good stride until the excellent film and the following Season 3.

What the hell was you smoking when you made that post? Cannon "churned" out cheesy 80's classics like Missing in Action, The Delta Force, American Ninja, and let's not forget they also made 52 Pick Up and Runaway Train.

You know I never really liked those Chuck Norris movies. I did like Lifeforce though

I'd forgotten Runaway Train was Cannon! They used to distribute some Hong Kong films in the 70s, prior to being taken over by Golan and Globus

Bloodsport, Avenging Force....

Bloodsport was awesome. Very entertaining, cool soundtrack. Kickboxer was even better.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, an underrated classic imo.
