-The HD-DVD is on a single-layered disc (HD15) and the ratio is 1:85:1.

-The R2UK is on a DVD-9, but has both an anamorphic 1.66:1 matted transfer and an unmatted 4:3 transfer. IIRC, they occupy both layers (rather than each version having its own dedicated layer). This disc is notable for having an exclusive DTS-ES 6.1 track. I suspect that the Anchor Bay R1 releases utilising the same master (the THX-approved one) MAYBE better encoded, due to not having the DTS track and the redundant unmatted version.

-The R3HK is on a DVD-9 and the ratio is 1.85:1. Notable for being the only worthwhile version of the DC (and being slightly extended to boot, see dvdcompare.net for the specifics.). Anchor Bay's DC releases are utterly dreadful, they look as if they were sourced from video tape.

Many thanks to Lourdes for providing the image hosting.

After looking at these screen captures, I've concluded that this HD-DVD release has been sorely under-rated by the critics. If you already have a HD-DVD player and are fan of the film then this disc is a must-own; it is clearly one of the best incarnations of this film to date.

I never did undertand why some people kicked the HD DVD transfer, for me it blows the dvds away. Its easy to see its far better, yet some reviwers and buyers of the HD DVD are just blind, or have just never owned the film on dvd to compare it with. They are morons and obviously dont deserve such a transfer.

The HD-DVD is by far the best the film has ever look. I'm glad I have it. But I think most of the complaints came from the slight edge enhancement and definition not being the greatest. But calling this the worst HD picture ever isn't right and it truly is a blessing for fans like us.

The edge enhancement is odd, I wish they could stop doing it for HD :( while its not as bad as standard dvds, it is a shame they still do it now for these HD transfers. Its ok if you do not notice it, but I ussually do and it can be a pain.

Still I own standard dvds with staggering amounts of shitty EE so I cannot complan to much :D
