Wait till you see part 2. I kind of agreed with you on this one. It wasn't that bad a film. However, part 2 is bad. Really, really bad. Kirsten Stewart is appalling in it. Everything is all the bad aspects that you mention about part 1.

I'm just wondering why the hell are you people watching the Twilight movies?

Tetsuo 3 was an awful choice. The girls took off before we even got to the theater

Shutter Island was a disaster, too

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was a disaster for me, for having to sit through such piece of crap

Reminded me about that guy in a Kurosawa documentary explaining how Seven Samurai was the worst date movie ever... he had chosen the longest movie, with the intention of getting closer and closer to the girl as the film goes on.... but he was so overwhelmed by the film that he completely forgot about the girl

I can see why its epic beyond words. I would rather go alone myself

I once took went on a date to see Downfall. Not exactly the most romantic of movies. Basically the same thing happened. It's 2.5Hrs long and I didn't look at the girl once. I never saw her again (and didn't want to).

The Adventures of Tintin: 3.5/5

I really quite enjoyed it Sometimes the performance capture is more successful than others. The Red Rackham and Mr. Sacharin characters almost look like real humans, and Tintin himself looks like a shop window dummy in some shots, even though the character always had simple facial features. The detail on buildings, water etc is astonishing.
There were some exciting parts though rather annoyingly the film just kind of... ends to just set up the sequel, as if to say "Join us next time!" I thought at least they'd combine the two books. Also I don't remember Mr. Sacharin being Rackham's descendant in the book/cartoon.
I like the opening credits that seem like a Blake Edwards Pink Panther film with comic book panels and art

The Gauntlet (USA, 1977) – 2.5/5
Subpar, yet passably entertaining Eastwood. The film makes remarkably little sense even by genre standards – to the extent it becomes somewhat a parody of cop action movies. Interesting action scenarios are hurt by poor pacing/editing – scenes tend to drag with too many punches thrown and too many bullets fired. Eastwood’s screen presence compensates for some of the weaknesses.

Gran Torino (USA, 2008) – 4/5
A perfect closing for Eastwood’s acting career. This is a tremendously old fashioned and even naïve film that finds excellent balance between entertainment and valuable anti-racist message. It’s also both a homage to old school tough guy cinema and warm parody of it. Dirty Harry got old in unexpectedly classy fashion.

Justice was good easy fun you know what your getting before the film starts.

He has said a few times he has retired from acting completely now in various different interviews. So who knows. I hope he comes back, but then gran Torino is such an epic end to his acting carear its perfect to end on that note.

Bronson (2008) - 4/5

I just watched Gran Torino on saturday night as well. I think I'd score it about the same as Fisty, although not sure yet.

It just seems a bit too short and I felt it was setting up for something much bigger than it ended up being. Also, the acting by some of the castmembers, notably the asians, was a little below average TBH.

HORRIBLE DR HICHCOCK (1962)

Beautifully photographed Italian horror concerning the necrophiliac lust of a perverted doc. Object of his lust is the delicious Barbara Steele.

In the title role, Robert Flemying was apparently so appalled he tried to sabotage it by not acting. Maybe so, but the lovely production more than spoils his efforts. Steele is lovely as ever. The ending is a bit on the silly side, but a bit of pulp is ok by me!

Hanna 2.5/5 ok thriller that entertains despite some lapses in logic at times.

Attack The Block 2/5 Hoodies vs aliens in this british actioner.ok but the characters are so unlikeable...we are supposed to root for a gang who we first meet robbing a young nurse at knifepoint?/

They're what pass for heroes in modern Britain.

I skipped Attack the Block and watched Morituris instead. I'm sure I made the right choice.

The Hurt Locker (USA, 2008) – 4/5
An excellent, intense Iraq movie beautifully shot in semi-documentaristic style. Rather than preaching or taking a political stand it follows normal soldiers who are merely conducting a dangerous day job – who is right, and what people are fighting for is not even a concern. And that’s exactly why it’s such a powerful and thought provoking movie.

Run Silent, Run Deep (USA, 1958) – 3.5/5
Stylish submarine thriller with a young lieutenant (Burt Lancaster) taking a stand against the old captain (Clark Gable) who is willing to endanger the whole crew in order to beat the Japanese. While showing its age in special effects and “overly cool acting”(not necessarily a bad thing) the action scenes are extremely well made. There’s also has plenty of old school classiness, and without propaganda. Looking at the storyline it’s easy to see how little submarine movies have changed since – more recent movies like Crimson Tide and K-19 follow the exact same concept.

V for Vendetta (2006-USA-UK-Germany) *½

Simple-minded, heavy-handed adaptation of Alan Moore's graphic novel (from the makers of The Matrix) is certainly interesting, but an almost total mess, with muddled, extreme left politics that hypocritically advocate the very extreme right "solutions" (bombing, torture, and execution) the anti-heroes condemn from others. Bizarre.
