*Queue Brad's whining.* They have legitmate reasons for doing so, get over it.

Harry Potter was the center of seven novels, but he'll star in eight films.

The final book in the wildly successful series will be made into two films, the Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday.

Producers are expected to announce Thursday that J.K. Rowling's last "Potter" installment, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," will be split into two parts on the big screen. The first film is slated for release in November 2010, with part two following in May 2011.

"It was born out of purely creative reasons," producer David Heyman told the Times. "Unlike every other book, you cannot remove elements of this book."

The two final "Potter" films will be shot concurrently, much like the blockbuster trilogy based on J.R.R. Tolkien's epic fantasy novel "The Lord of the Rings."

Another famous Tolkien tome, "The Hobbit," is also being split into two live-action movies set for back-to-back shooting to begin next year.

Filming on the sixth "Potter" flick, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," began in September.

"It's been brilliant," said star Daniel Radcliffe. "It's also, I think, the funniest of the films so far."

The "Potter" film franchise has pulled in $4.5 billion at the worldwide box office.

So they only have 2 books yet to release?

I cannot say I'm bothered as I won't be seeing it but the "you cannot remove elements of this book" strikes to me as marketing bollocks so people pay twice. I don't believe for a second you couldn't make it into one film. If they can make the Lord of the Rings books in just 3 films they can certainly do Potter in 1 film!

I'm more excited that The Hobbit is definitely finally coming. I though it was just rumours. According to IMDB Guillermo del Toro is directing it, is that still so? If so next to Peter Jackson he has to be the perfect choice. With Guillermo del Toro at the helm The Hobbit will be amazing.

I heard somewhere that there are even going to be two parts of "The Hobbit" and he is directing both.

His use of CGI is disgusting, he's one of few directors I have an actual dislike for.

And I suppose you've read both Deathly Hallows and the LOTR books?

LOTR was originally released in 3 volumes, with 2 short "books" per volume - and even then the whole story takes up only around 1200 pages. Ergo, a trilogy of films was the best way to release them.

Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows, is much longer than any of the LOTR volumes, it's around 600 pages long, so approximately half as long as the entirety of LOTR.

Fair enough then. Are all of the 600 pages compulsory though? I mean lots of detail in books isn't needed when porting it to Film.

Dunno, never read Deathly Hallows, from what i've been told by people who have, it does sound like splitting it across 2 films is the best move.
