All nasty, nasty looking DVD's.
The R1 has the big long documentary from the OOP R2J SE.

Unless I'm mistaken that's some nasty EE on the R2J.

I've never heard of it but the captures make it look interesting, thanks. Is it any good?

The same EE is there on the r1 & r2uk, just that the softness makes it less apparent/"sharp".

Oh right, thanks. I cannot say I can see it but like you say if it's soft I probably wouldn't.

Look at Asano's left arm in the 3rd set of comparison pics (his left, not yours). You can see a clearly defined line down its outer edge in the r2j. Now look closely at the same area on the r1/2uk grabs and you should make out a similar, but softer, more blurry line.

With many r2j releases the EE tends to be introduced at the master stage, and it filters through to the export releases as well, as they use the same masters - or maybe a tape master struck from the original. That is clearly the case here.

Thanks. I can just spot it.

Do they consider the majority of people would prefer it? I presume so as it happens quite a lot. I guess most people don't look closely so just like the initial apparent sharpness.

Why studios continue to use EE is one of the great mysteries of the world to me. Who knows.
