RAMBO: May 27th DVD/Blu-Ray release date confirmed!

Post by Old Pang Yau »

From DVD Active:
Lionsgate Home Entertainment has confirmed the official street date for 1-disc ($29.95) and 2-disc special editions ($34.98) of Rambo which stars Sylvester Stallone, Julie Benz, Matthew Marsden, and Graham McTavish. The latest chapter will be available to own from the 27th May. Each release will carry a 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen presentation, along with an English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround track. The extra material has yet to be revealed for either release I'm afraid, although we can confirm that a digital copy of the film will be included on the 2-disc. A Blu-ray release will also be available for $39.99 with Dolby Digital 5.1 EX and DTS HD 7.1 tracks. We'll bring you further details on this one shortly. Stay tuned.
It was also stated on a site a few weeks back that Lionsgate planned on releasing Blu-Ray editions of Rambo: First Blood Part II and Rambo III on May 27th, which stemmed rumours that Rambo would indeed come out this same day.

Here's hoping an extended cut, or at least a deleted scenes gallery, shows up.

Does Rambo 4 need an Extended Cut? It would be cool if it got one but I don't think (like some) it needs one particularly.

Fantastic Rambo 4 has Lossless Audio!

Here's the info on Rambo 2 and Rambo 3:

THAT was the site, thanks for the update  And while I wouldn't like a drastically extended version (people have been spouting rumors of a two hour cut), I would like one that would be 90 minutes EXCLUDING the long as all hell end credits... so it'd probably be closer to 100 minutes.

There are a few interesting shots missing from the film that were present in Stallone's original internet-only trailers. A very interesting one was during the finale when Rambo is standing on the back of the jeep with the machine gun. Apparently, a Burmese soldier attempts to take him out with a rocket, but Rambo jumps off just in time as the jeep gets hit. Here's the link to the trailer:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=8wVBOesZ2C8

The shot starts at about 55 seconds. Both of these trailers have little snippets here and there. But, guess we'll find out more over the next month or so.

I wouldn't mind a DC with a bit more plot/drama in it... but no more action or violence.
A Blu-ray release will also be available for $39.99
Are they taking the piss? $40 for one film?? Eff off!

And it'll no doubt be coded. Bastards!!

@ Old Pang Yau:

IMDB says it's 91 minutes. I guess they include the credits too though. We certainly don't need a 120 minute cut. What would you like to see added to bring it up to 90 minutes, or is that extra scene the only one?

I cannot think of anything I'd like (maybe a longer flash back sequence, less edited so much). It didn't feel too long or too short IMO. I'm not one for wanting all footage shown in Trailers to be edited back in. They're usually cut for a reason.

Thanks for the You Tube link. I'll check it out.

I guess that wouldn't hurt.

That's only an RRP. Except for Fox (who charge a fortune for barebones discs, bastards!) most BDs can be picked up reasonably.
Markgway wrote:And it'll no doubt be coded. Bastards!!
As it's Lionsgate you can bet on it.

I think War is Region Free but most Lionsgate BDs aren't. Just wait for the UK BD if you still want a Region B Player. It's not like it's cut in the UK and may not be a Lionsgate title in the UK either.

The credits for Rambo 4 lasted about 10 mins!

It's a short movie by modern standards. No flab.

Thanks.

It makes a nice change. It didn't feel short, which must be a good sign IMO. It felt just right but I guess another 10 minutes on top of the existing 80 minutes wouldn't hurt.

I imagine it will be the Theatrical Cut though and if one is coming that will be the next release.
Markgway wrote:Sony distributed RAMBO in the UK, it was Lionsgate in the US.
It's likely to be Region Free in the UK then. If the USA BD turns out to be Region Locked I'll wait to see what Sony do with it.

Even though I'm getting a Region A Player I'd prefer Region Free discs if I can help it.

Yeah, they pretty much always include the credits in the runtime... and yes, the credits really are that long. The film itself is really only about 80 minutes without them, maybe slightly longer. It just seems a bit too short. But, I gave the theatrical cut a solid 8/10 anyway, so I'm not complaining too much :D

Minor update: 6 disc Rambo DVD box set to be released the same day:

http://www.dvdactive.com/news/releases/ ... s-set.html

Strangely enough, no "official announcement" on the Blu-Ray set coming out. Then again, maybe they're just going to have all four movies separate on Blu-Ray rather than a box set. Hopefully that's not the case and they'll have them available BOTH separately and in a box set.

Cool. I hope DTS is added back on the DVDs. No doubt it's the 4 films, plus an extras disc for Rambo and an overall extras disc.

Personally I see only separate releases on BD. An expensive BD box set "maybe" risky.

I hope the digital copy isn't IP address locked! Meaning it will only work in North America. I always rip DRM out of everything I can but this would just make it harder.

Everyone can have a digital copy, download the bloody thing.

The only "digital copy" disc I have right now is Family Guy's Blue Harvest, but I haven't tried it out yet... maybe I'll finally give it a shot sometime and put it on my iPod

Thanks saltysam for the BD pic... little confused as to why they didn't use either of the poster images, rather than using the post-final-battle pose pic of Rambo.

I guess it's too new and not connected, as strange as that sounds.

I hope that Digital Copy sticker is removable.
romerojpg wrote:Everyone can have a digital copy, download the bloody thing.
Agreed but that will never work for the mass market. Besides presuming it's not IP locked (so only works in North America) it will be much easier to copy it from a disc you already have.

I know I'd find it useful for my Video MP3 Player. Assuming it's not full of DRM (which it probably is) or isn't IP locked. In short I may find it's easier to still just download it.

I wish they used Poster Art more. It's almost always better than the cover they end up using.

Well, that makes an assload of sense... box up the first three films, but just let the newest one dangle by itself only... ugh. Like I said, it would've worked best if they had all four separate AND in a box set with all four. Hell, they're releasing a DVD set with all four movies! Yet the Blu-Ray box set only has three. I'm missing something here. Oh well, whatever... just looks a little out of place... but I'm just rambling, and need some sleep :D

UPDATE: Confirmation of extras (from DVD Active):

-Audio commentary with Sylvester Stallone
-Deleted Scenes (woo!)
-6 Featurettes
-And the aforementioned "digital copy"

And apparently the Blu-Ray disc has all of the same extras, plus a "picture in picture" commentary as well as a trailer gallery for "all previous Rambo films". In other words, that MAY mean it only has trailers for all of the Rambo films EXCEPT this one... which wouldn't make much sense.

Overall, the list of extras isn't exactly eye popping... but maybe once we find out just how many deleted scenes there are AND exactly what the 6 featurettes are/how long they are, then maybe I'll be a bit more excited :P

I'm pretty much only interested in First Blood and John Rambo. With this BD box set coming, is it confirmed there won't be individual releases for the original trilogy? I'm not fussed about owning parts 2 & 3...

Yes I'm sure there are individual releases. There is a High Def. Digit link in my last post on the previous page that says separate releases. I am only interested in Rambo 2 and Rambo 4.

FYI cover art is online at DVD Active (see the first post). Personally I prefer the 1 disc to 2 disc cover art but the 2 disc cover art is fine.

All four will have their own Blu-Ray releases. What I was complaining about was that there is going to be Blu-Ray box set released the same day... but it only has the first three films. Meanwhile, a DVD box set is also coming out that day with ALL 4 films. Eh, I dunno... too damn confusing.
