Classic, very witty there Lourdes :D

Am I allowed to vote? I only will if I'm allowed ;)

p.s - For those who remotely care it will be a toss up between:

Within 6 months (BD) - Possibly/Probably.
Within 6 months (Combo) - Hopefully.

The recent firmware news from LG is looking very promising. If they deliver on that I'll definitely pick it up. I can live without Profile 2.0.

For those who picked:

* Within 6 months (Combo) - Give yourself a pat on the back, that will just be me then :D
* For the 7 members who picked: Never, More than a year (Combo), By the time they bring out the next format - Shame on you :D. As if anyone would buy 35 discs and never have any intention of playing them 8).

After 15-18 months of waiting and almost 10 weeks after a HD Player was finally available that met my strict requirements I've finally ordered one.

The LG BH200 HD Combo Player. I went for a Euro model so as to make sure the warranty was intact and I didn't have to mess around with a voltage converter. It will of course be Region B out of the box but I'll be switching it to Region A.

I could've saved about £100 by importing one from America but then that would likely have no warranty (it would be invalid as soon as I plugged it into a voltage converter), for such a product I think warranty is important. It comes with a Free copy of the Matrix Trilogy HD-DVD. Which I already have so will be putting on eBay.

So whose next? Mark maybe or maybe Grim :D.

Brad neatly forgets to mention he started his combo thread in Jan 2007,as this poll despite being started in March is backdated to then i make it 16 months meaning no-one got the correct answer (more than a year (combo) :)

The first post just says: "Discuss." and you've not posted before, so no you lose ;). You cannot alter the rules after the game is over :D. I'm still wondering how I'm supposed to forget something that hasn't been mentioned before. Not that you're being serious ;).

You're just pissed off you cannot take the piss out of me any more about it :D.

It's funny you should ask that as I e-mailed Humax the other day asking if they'll be A: Releasing a Full HD model and B: One with their critically acclaimed 9200 PVR built-in.

The answer was: By the end of the summer this year. I don't have a scooby doo how I'll sell my existing TV (any ideas?) but to be able to reduce the boxes under my TV to one less, plus Full HD is an absolute must.

Humax's current LCD TV's only offer HD Ready and a rubbish PVR, which isn't a patch on my 9200 (Humax have even admitted this). I wouldn't ordinarily look at Humax for a TV but if it came with the 9200 built-in I certainly would. LG's current LCD TVs with built-in PVR are equally rubbish (the PVR side).

I couldn't go back to a lesser PVR now and to be able to reduce the number of boxes to 2 would be ace (HD Combo + HDD/DVD Recorder), especially when for most people the same entails 4 boxes (HD-DVD Player, BD Player, PVR, DVD Recorder). I don't actually mind owning three boxes but two is better and it also means less remote controls, which is always a good thing.

I'm thinking 37" or 40". I'm not keen to really go bigger. So in your answer to your question I hope to by Xmas. Unlike a HD Player buying a TV is a considerably easier task.

I'll then upgrade my Amp sometime next year. I'm in no rush to do that but at least I know the HD Combo Player will be ready and waiting (something as you know I was holding on for, then I became unemployed). I'll be able to get 640Kbps DD/DD+ or 1.5Mbps Full-rate DTS/DD+ from all discs (like the PS3, but certainly not all HD Players) which will do me for now.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When are you going to upgrade your Amp? Your Lossy SPDIF Amp won't cut the mustard, you too are playing with the big boys :D.

What Amp do you use anyway? Is it a SPDIF Home Cinema Separates Amp (i.e - Full size) or Home theater in a box? -

If you're waiting until xmas you might as well get a 46" TV, should be able to get a good 1080p screen for around £1000 (most likely less) and it should see you good for a few years when screens bigger and higher res will be the norm.

So you spend years obsessing over HD players and you want a Humax LCD?
1080p is marketing BS by and large, there's very little difference with displays below 50" and LCD is shit, especially Humax ones. Pioneer Plasma is the only way to go, or Panasonic if you have less monies.

Thanks Shingster. I certainly won't be getting one before Autumn.

I was hoping to not spend that much but with a built-in PVR it will cost more. As to size, my 32" is already a good size for me and crucially the room size but I could go a bit larger. I'm sure 46" would engulf the room. I'm not a fan of a TV being so large it's all you see when you walk into a living room.

For a Techie forum full of young blokes I can appreciate that is usually way down the list but for me I want my flat to look nice.

Well done, you are on the ball today.
EvaUnit02 wrote:TV's that large mess with the feng shui of his flat, where "space is a premium."
I wouldn't put it quite that way but you've got it in one 8). My living room is actually pretty large but space is still a premium.
romerojpg wrote:Humax with a built in PVR   you could not make it up.
Clearly you've never used a Humax PVR then and don't have a Scooby doo what you're talking about. Obviously Humax don't make the best TVs in the world BUT I'm not and never have been an AVphile. What I do want though is a decent PVR. I'm sure the TV side will be fine.

I'm not the fool who followed the sheep and bought the overrated PS3 :D. Which incidentally I've no actual problem people buying but I do think it funny when members dis. my choice of HD Player, which in many ways beats the PS3 (and some ways it doesn't). It's certainly not inferior.

Speaking of your TV I do find it hilarious you spend months researching one, spent a fortune then didn't get a 24p model. That's funny!

As ever Brad makes himself look rather silly by offering his opinion on machines he's never used.i wonder which one of the 2 machines is soon ceasing production and which one will be in production for years to come?answers on a postcard please!which members have dissed your choice of hd player?they are laughing at you contemplating a humax telly.not me,you get what tv you want,i have an AOC LCD in the bedroom and it does the job for me .going back to the ps3 i have never seen a dedicated thread on forums labelled what discs won't play on a ps3 however i see you have one running for your combo over at that forum where you've become webmaster

There's no need to feel defensive :). You've never used a Combo Player but have felt happy dissing them for well over a year ;).

The LG BH200 in particular is a solid piece of kit. There aren't any other HD Players on the market where you can play DVD, BD, HD-DVD, SD DVD MR, Enable PAL and switch BD Regions. That alone should be noted, if nothing else.
saltysam wrote:i wonder which one of the 2 machines is soon ceasing production and which one will be in production for years to come?
What's that got to do with the quality of either machine? That's a marketing decision not a technical prowess of any hardware.
saltysam wrote:which members have dissed your choice of hd player?
Do you want a list? Off the top of my head: You, Romero, Lourdes.

You in particular have got a lot of mileage out of it. I wouldn't mind if you could take it too ;).
saltysam wrote:they are laughing at you contemplating a humax telly.not me,you get what tv you want
I know, it's cool :).

The last part of my post was directed at Romero, including the PS3 part. For example you're well aware of the need to own a Region A PS3. Romero didn't do his homework and now regularly posts hoping title X and title Y are Region Free.
saltysam wrote:going back to the ps3 i have never seen a dedicated thread on forums labelled what discs won't play on a ps3 however i see you have one running for your combo over at that forum where you've become webmaster
Personally I've never looked so couldn't say either way.

I have seen problem Toshiba disc threads though. Granted I've never read of a PS3 Disc problem but that aside most HD Players have problems. I posted a few examples over in the Combo thread. Just because someone hasn't started a dedicated thread drawing attentions to the problems it doesn't mean none exist.

It's also worth reminding people that the "LG BH200 Problem disc" thread only has 2 titles that have been confirmed by more that 1 user and 1 of those works for as many people as it doesn't. Obviously it's possible that the other discs also don't work across the board but for all we know they may not. 2 conclusive problem discs isn't exactly a lot. Besides for me anyway none of them are titles I want.

It's also worth remembering when people are happy they don't tell you. From my experience of reading AVS over the past few months there are far more happy than annoyed BH200 customers and I've not read a report of a user returning their Combo for ages. That says it all IMO.

If Denon ever do release their rumoured Combo Player, would I upgrade? More than likely but until then I'm confident I'll be happy with the LG BH200. Like you I'm not as fussy as many, an odd thing to say when I've spent so long finding the right product I know :D.

It's funny you should mention that because people over at AVS no longer think of me as the LG Combo expert, which is good. Members like Peterjcat and Casey know far more than I do. So I'm afraid that's another on you'll no longer be able to say either 8).

says the guy who sets himself up as resident expert on a usa forum despite NEVER playing a HD disc of any kind himself.

bradavon wrote:What's that got to do with the quality of either machine? That's a marketing decision not a technical prowess of any hardware.
For marketing decision read it's selling like shit!

bradavon wrote:Do you want a list? Off the top of my head: You, Romero, Lourdes.
See this is where you are so clueless Brad,it's not been the machine we've been dissing as such,we've been laughing and taking the piss out of you and the way you spout shit as a self-proclaimed HD expert who has agonised for 16 months over a player that spins discs !
bradavon wrote:You in particular have got a lot of mileage out of it. I wouldn't mind if you could take it too ;).
i can take plenty Brad.you on the other hand are such an easy open target for pisstaking i'm getting bored with it.

Fuck it, it's not worth arguing about. Believe me I fully realise "why" people are taking the Mick about my choice of HD Player ;).

You didn't ask my question, what Amp do you have? I was asking sincerely :).
