bradavon, just looking at what you've got for sale, you're selling yourself short with a couple of those.

For example, Batman Begins at £2.50 + £2 P&P. You could get more than that for it. I put mine up at £6.99 buy-it-now with free P&P & it sold.

If you put stuff up on E-Bay with free P&P & then build it into your buy-it-now price, people think they're getting a bargain.

If they see a DVD-sized item marked up with £2 postage, they know they're getting ripped off because it currently costs 66p to send a DVD second class. BUT if you give them free P&P they're more likely to buy it.

Thats just my experience anyway...

Thanks. I know but I want an easy sale and if I try and sell some (DVDs especially) for more, there is a good chance they won't sell but like you say they might.

I think it like this, I'd prefer an easy sale and also when all the items add up it's still a decent amount of cash. I did sell one SACD for £3.50 as I mispriced it. It should've been £5. Oh well the guy paid before I noticed so it would be unfair to say anything.

I also have big clear outs, meaning I sell loads at once and it takes long enough as it is to sell them, without adding selling blurb. I do for the expensive listings though.

That is one way to do it. I tend to offer a BIN and Auction price. They can then pick. I really just want a quick sale. I cannot stand things hanging around I no longer want.

I'll still make a good few hundred, including my DVD Player and a Free copy of Vista HP I have. MS USA sent it to me during a Support call to fix something else (I only had one of those duff System Restore discs) and oddly it also had an activation code.

Obviously I cannot verify it will activate but when I entered it it was accepted. Since then I've sourced a Vista HP SP1 DVD so don't need it.

True but likewise if you sell the item for less they don't tend to care as the overall price is still cheap.

I do agree though. There are several ways to do it.

Just curious... do you guys actually manage to sell second hand items at those prices?

Last time I sold 90 DVDs of the 100 I listed. I gave those away. So yes they sell. It's worth remembering most people shop at HMV and Amazon. They don't have a clue about searching for the lowest price or can be bothered.

I'm only talking about DVDs, which I presume you are? The DVD Player I'm selling is a bargain for £200. I paid over double that for it. I've never owned such an excellent DVD Player. I'd keep it if it wasn't overkill to own another DVD Player.

Adding "Limited Edition" alone is guaranteed to give more interest. Many rare titles that are now OOP can semi-legitimately be called Limited Editions, so I do.

If you're adding postage, yeah. £4.99 for Batman Begins is top-end IMO. Some of Monkey's items can be bought cheaper for new in the shops. I just wonder why anyone would buy them instead on ebay? Even when I used ebay myself I always looked for a bargain. And yeah, I was talking about discs only.

Works for the distributors who plaster LIMITED this and ULTIMATE that on sleeves. The term "rare" is widely misused. As soon as something's been out for more than a month it's deemed "rare" by some. lol I think you'd have to be demented to pay £15 for The Rock when you can get the BD for £s LESS(!)

Easy of use, not knowing which shops/online stores it's cheaper in. We'll happily spent time looking for the bargains but most won't. Also remember with eBay a good 2/3 is impulse buying.

Most aren't interested in BDs, no matter how cheap they are.

I agreed btw but you need to put yourself in the mind set of joe public when you sell on eBay.

I sold my Batman Begins HD-DVD for £7.50 (including postage) and bought the BD for £10.99. I don't plan to do this for all my HD-DVDs, just the 3-4 Warner discs I have. I have too many Universal HD-DVDs to bother .

p.s - Why not Gasteropod? One item takes no time at all.

Listing an item should take minutes, just type one quick sentence and use the stock photo. For a £4-5 DVD it's not worth spending ages on it.

Re-use jiffy bags and pop it in the letterbox. For cheap DVDs I rarely bother taking them to the post office. Sure you don't get then proof of postage but for only £3-4 it's no big deal.

It's 78p for 1st class or 66p for 2nd class, just buy the appropriate stamps. 1st class stamps are 36p each and 2nd class 27p each, three 2nd class stamps should mean it's sent 1st class.

Why charge so much for postage? One disc never costs more than a £1 within the UK. £2.99 total for Batman Begins is fine though IMHO.

Yeah, ebay is full of muppets who overpay for anything going. I lost auctions to some ricidiculously high offers.

I can easily see people paying a bit more with The Dark Knight doing so well.

I've always gone by what an item is worth not what I can get for it. I know that's naive but I hate screwing people (you know what I mean).

Also remember with eBay a good 2/3 is impulse buying.

I was under the impression that parcels needed to be taken to the post office, so that they can weigh them and charge you the appropriate amount. I always pay more than 36p to send parcels off first class.

I always go to the Post Office myself to be sure as it's not worth having the recipient be forced to go and collect their parcel at the sorting office and pay for incorrect postage (it happens) just because the sender was too bloody lazy to do it the right way.
