Army of Darkness

Top: DVD Side B
Bottom: HD-DVD Side A

The HD screenshots are all from HDMOVIES.co.nz, notice the watermark. I matched them with the DVD.
First things first, the DVD looks very good and up-converts beautifully. So naturally the 1080P transfer would improve upon it gloriously but that isn't really the case here.
Seen by itself the HD transfer looks fantastic but in comparison to the 480 transfer it is obvious this could've been more impressive. In many cases the image just falls
flat and doesn't look as good as HD should. The last capture shows hardly any additional detail. The good thing is that grain is well preserved and edge enhancement is kept to
a minimum. This is by far the best home video presentation AOD has ever had but that doesn't mean it's the best it could be.

If the HD DVD transfer was sourced from the R3 NTSC MGM version, it'd look a helluva lot cleaner and finer grain. Especially withstanding needless edge enhancement. I'll stick with the version I own mentioned previously in the last sentence.
