Given the look of the MoC (R2UK) I'd say it has the more accurate palette although I wouldn't say the Criterion looks manipulated at all, unlike most of their releases. The MoC is missing quite a bit of image in comparison to the Criterion; and the Criterion also has better subs (look and translation).
Extras wise the Criterion has an Imamura interview, the MoC has an intro and a commentary.
A win for Criterion although I'll be keeping my MoC disc as I'm quite happy.
yeah, you're right. I'll make my decision on which one to buy after I've seen the movie on TV in a few months (if I still feel like buying it).
the beaver comparison was apparently screwed again as the Criterion looked a lot worse in their caps. Someone else noted about it before, too, but this confirms it.
