Both discs are progressive.

THe BFI has more detail due to Criterion filtering but in this case (actually watching it play) I do prefer the Criterion because the extra detail on this old film makes the BFI transfer look a little 'muddy.' The Criterion also has better audio, subs (BFI is ahrdsubbed) and extras (even an English dub!).
Buy the Criterion.
