On the whole the R2UK has the better image; it has more flecks, scratches and things but the Criterion looks overprocessed. Both are fairly close though with variances throughout and the Criterion does have more image much of the time.
The Criterion hs notably better audio. The BFI disc is a bit too tinny and loud, the Criterion is a little clearer and less harsh on the ears.
The BFI subtitles seem truer but the Criterion ones are more detailed.
The Criterion has the "It's Wonderful to Create" docu whereas the BFI just has filmographies.

I'd say get the Criterion.

This is a Kurosawa film, right? Because I was thinking of ordering the Criterion from DVDpacific.

Were you going to order it because it was a Criterion? :|

No, I've never seen it and have only heard the name and people have told me it is a good film by Kurosawa. I just wasn't sure if this was the same movie they were talking about, I kind of forgot the title but when I saw this in the database it made me remember it.
I assume it is a Kurosawa film then.. :?

Yes it is. :)
Based upon Hamlet and rather enjoyable, not one of his deeper films but it's very involving and well paced.
