XBMC - Latest Version downloadable from this site

Post by slasher13 »

Hey there, I see some people are using xbmc, so I thought I would put this link, if you want the latest version from subversion which has been compiled, then checkout: http://t3ch.yi.se/

Some people may already know this, but I thought I would put up a link, just in case :-)

If anyone got any useful links concerning xbox xbmc, emulation, other dashboard, then please post here.

Yep, thats a great site. Its really fast too; I get about 600K/s from it when downloading the latest XBMC.

There's a couple of bugs I've noticed but these could be more to do with the skin I use as they are graphical glitches.

If you're not using it, I recommend MC360 by Team Blackbolt:

http://blackbolt.x-scene.com/

They also do the XBox Classic skin but I don't like the images used on that. I much prefer MC360. Its the first thing I add onto XBMC when I install the latest version!

By the way, has anyone else had problems with the Apple Movie Trailers plug-in on the latest builds of XBMC? It doesn't seem to want to work with the MC360 skin. I can only get it to work with the default Project Mayhem III skin.

The next thing I want to get working is direct listing & playing of SNES games from within XBMC - a front end type thing. I hate having to load ugly emulators to then load the games. Just integrate it into XBMC already!

I don't actually play many retro games now though, as I've just installed a 160GB HDD in my XBox so now I've got all 49 of my genuine games on it - no need for the discs! :D

Oh thanks for the heads up. I'd been using a daily snapshot compile from August for a while now, the updated T3CH skin is awesome.

No fucking thanks. The last thing I'd want is for XBMC to become bloatware. I don't think that it'd be possible for it act as a front end, they'd highly likely have to integrate the actual emulator's code wholesale into XBMC. A lot people only use their Xbox as a media centre, the last thing they'd want is for the program to become bloatware by having all these redundant features that they'd never use.

I didn't mean it would have to be in the actual release. I would like to see a modular approach to XBMC with plug-ins that end users could choose to download. A bit like the AMT plug-in & other scripts that are used at the moment.

I basically just want a front end plug-in that would list all available ROMs on the HDD (within XBMC & using the same visuals) & then when selected, the emulator would load & boot straight into the game.

Does that sound like a better idea now?

*Has a look at the site*

Oh how deceptive of you Slasher, there is no new stable build, just the same old regular T3CH compiles of unstable nightly builds.

I'm sorry Eva, Saying that I have downloaded the unstable builds, and put it on my xbox, and thankfully it has been fine. Although I just watch anime and dvdrips films on it from a shared drive

Just out of interest, when setting up xbmc, for show/anime that are 4:3, did you change the pixel size to 0.75, as that what I had to do and put it as a custom settings which is annoying.

My telly doesn't support pillarboxing whilst in progressive scan mode, so I just switch to 480i for 4:3 stuff. (with XBMC I very well could watch in 480p pillarboxed, but I can't be arsed resizing the borders.)

Being able to manually manipulate the image like that is great, I can bypass my TV's overscan.

Honestly, the T3CH builds are no less stable than the official releases. I upgrade my XBMC every week (boot to EvoX, delete XBMC folder contents, fresh install) & I've never had any problems.

You miss out on some cool new features if you only stick with the latest official build.

slasher13, how is anime different to any other 4:3 material? I don't watch it myself so I'm not sure how the files are encoded. If I have anything that is 4:3 it automatically plays at the correct ratio (i.e. letterbox for widescreen images wider than 1.78:1, pillarbox for 4:3 images). I'm using XBMC in 720p resolution by the way.

Hey IronMonkey, No difference, Anime are the only videos I have which are in 4:3 :) Do you have an HD tv which allow pillowbox? How did you setup for widescreen on 1.78:1 and 4:3?

There are no "official releases", the XBMC team never release compiled versions themselves as it may land them in legal hot water. At the end of the day 90% of Xbox homebrewed programs are compiled with pirated versions of the Microsoft SDK.
