Hi everyone. I have a question about booting on a modified XBox.
At the moment I have my XBox softmodded with the original 8GB HDD & it features dual-boot. When I power on with the eject button my original Microsoft dash loads, & when I power on with the power button either XBMC or a game loads depending on whether one is in the DVD drive or not.
Now that I don't have XBox Live anymore on my original XBox (getting a 360 next month), I want to replace the HDD with a 160GB drive so that I can store my games on it.
BUT I don't want it to dual boot. I just want the XBox to boot to XBMC whether I press the power button or the eject button - I've no use for the original dash anymore.
I was just going to copy the files from my original drive (using XBox HDM) to the new one but that will give me dual-boot. Is there a tool that can change boot options once I've done this or should I just put the original Microsoft dash onto the new drive then re-softmod using a different method that would give me boot options?
Is there a small boot utility that I could just put in the E:\Apps folder that would give me these options?
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!

I just had a thought... Would it be possible to just replace the original dash with XBMC? Surely when the XBox powers on it just loads msdash.xbe (I think thats what its called, can't remember) so I could just rename XBMC's default.xbe & place XBMC in the root of the C:\ drive.
Or would that be too simple?
Thanks!

That's exactly how you do it. Rename the existing default.xbe on your C: partition to xboxdash.xbe.IronMonkey wrote:I just had a thought... I strongly recommend that you have more than one homebrew dashboard installed. Install at least EvoX and Avalaunch as backups and have them set up for FTPing. Have ALL custom dashboards set up for FTP and make sure that they all work (i.e. you can successfully transfer files over the network from your PC to the Xbox).

Great, cheers for that! That's the best way of doing it then as far as I'm concerned. Or I might just create a shortcut that points to XBMC's default.xbe & name the shortcut xboxdash.xbe.EvaUnit02 wrote:That's exactly how you do it. That way I won't brick my XBox if I ever forget to rename XBMc's default.xbe when I upgrade to the latest version.
Yep, I will be having EvoX as a backup, but I don't like AvaLaunch...EvaUnit02 wrote:I strongly recommend that you have more than one homebrew dashboard installed.
