Laputa: Castle in the Sky R2FR vs R2J

Post by tom2681 »

French caps were taken with VirtualDubMod, then bicubically resized to 1024x576 and saved in JPG format with 80% compression.
Note: the french DVD has english subs and "might" be a R2UK port.

French disc on top.
Japanese disc at bottom.

I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

Japanese transfer is surprisingly soft.
French transfer is slightly cropped to achieve a 1:85 ratio.

French transfer is unsurprisingly edge enhanced.

hmm... hard one. Something in between would be best IMO

Is the R2J dubtitled?

Most definitely, I think that the R1 might have proper subs though.

I'll try and find out whether the R2FR has proper english subtitles or just dubtitles.

The R2J has proper subs and the old English dub. It's also interlaced btw.

The french transfer is progressive (just FYI) and I'm checking the subs as I'm writing this...

Ah, shit. Both sets of english subs are dubtitles.
And the french subs seem to have been translated from the dubtitles and then adapted to fit the japanese dialogue track. It's weird but quite effective. :D
