HDTV usually loses out to DVD due to the heavy compression that is the norm for broadcasts. However, this time I reckon the broadcast is better than the DVD. Because it's such old material in poor condition the compression artefacts aren't so noticeable and the extra detail is really nice.

Can't comment on all the caps (it would take me a lifetime to download 16 png screencaps :D ) but the amount of extra detail is quite extraordinary in some shots (especially N°5 & 6).

Thanks for the comparison.

All right, maybe someone can help... how do you get caps of HD programs?

AK 100 Box added. Same as the other changed discs in the box, cropping in place of black bars.

I like the AK 100 Box one best. I can see no difference between it and the R1 except the cropped black bars at the top/bottom. Which serve no purpose.

The HD one looks the best but boy that weird wood affect is annoying.

Can you not see the missing picture from the top? All they've done is zoomed in the usual release and lopped off some of the top to make it the right size.

Now you mention it, yes but only if I compare. That said, the black bars would be lost in over-scan, so you'd likely see more picture anyway.
