St. Albans Film Festival

When this comes round in July I've decided to see these so far:

Pan's Labyrinth
The Lives of Others

But cant decide whether to see Kekexili (which I've already seen, was very good BTW) or The Family Friend (Italian film) which I havent seen.

I've already seen Orchestra Seats (liked it), Volver is playing in Harpenden not St. Albans. Boo

You got a full list of films? Doesn't sound like a very good fesival (for new/unseen films).

All of those have either had a theatrical run or are available on DVD.

You could be right Bisc - though some have had only limited runs near me (eg Lives of Others, Pan's Labyrinth).

The films are:

The Family Friend (Italy)
Orchestra Seats (France)
Mountain Patrol (China)
Women In Love (UK)
Bridge to Terabithia (US) - this is on general release so not sure why this is there?
The Chorus (France)
March of the Penguins (US)
The History Boys (UK)
The Motorcycle Diaries (US/UK/Chile/Peru)
Volver (Spain)
Mrs. Henderson Presents (UK)
The Queen (UK)
Happy Feet (US)

Some are showing in Harpenden though (eg Volver)

I agree in the sense when theyre showing films that are already available on DVD (most of them) and kiddie films (Happy Feet, Bridge to Terabithia etc) dont belong in a "Festival"

I'd like to see the Lives of Others/Pans Labyrinth though, and Mountain Patrol was good.

Lives of Others is supposed to be a very very good film, my tutor recommended it to me when it was playing at the Arthouse here. didn't get to see it. but she gave it a great review, and it does sound very good. it's the first film on my list to watch after i finish revising.

I agree with Mark on this one. I'll be looking forward to the Edinburgh Film Festival instead.

Hope you enjoy those three films Grim. You're in for a treat with Pan's Labyrinth.

I've heard nothing but great things about Pan's Labyrinth, but I don't really like fantasy films, so I'm not sure I would enjoy it.

It's not a fantasy film Mark. It's more a World War II drama, with some fantasy bits thrown in. The fantasy elements probably make up around 20% of the film. I reckon you'd enjoy this - maybe hunt a cheap dvd or something.
