PSX Emulation on PSP

Post by slasher13 »

Hey there, Is anyone else trying the PSX emu on the PSP. Just done the Dark Alex firmware now -http://www.dark-alex.org/, thankfully it went through fine, I have an 1.5 PSP, so it was okay. Now just going through the PSX2PSP Popstation program, trying out Tenchu first.

Just want to know if anyone else has done this?

Is the PSP powerful enough of playing PS1 Games? I know it's good but is it that good.

Yup, the PSP is between PS1 and PS2. Sony had developed the PSX emulation which will only play a few games, but this can be cracked using Dark Alex patch, so has greater game support. I have been playing a couple of PSX games,

Final Fantasy Tactic
Silent Hill
Tenchu

All are playable, full speed and full sounds, it great!!

PS1 games runs smoothly on the PSP. I'd say without it even breaking a sweat as the PSP is much closer to the PS2 than the PS1. What else is great is that the games actually look good... simply because the screen is so small compared the tv you are used to. They don't look 10 years old at all... at least not the ones I tried.

(Same goes for SNES games though, which can be played nearly at 100% emulation through various HomeBrew. And SONY is fighting this why?!!)
So long, and thanks for all the fish!

Snes9xTYL and also worth a look is the MegaDrive/Genesis emu DGEN.

I've been keeping an eye on the GBA emulation, but it's not running fast enough (yet?) to be very usefull... :-/

My fucking post was deleted again. Probably thanks to periodic backups/rollbacks of the server.

How is the aspect ratio handled? PS1 games are 4:3, but the PSP has a 16:9 screen.

Hey Eva,

The emulation does give you the original aspect ratio, double (which really only adds a little), zoomed (fill the screen and cuts out a little on the top) or full (stretches the screen to fit in 16:9 - Yuck, don't like it). I prefer to use double, which is simply a little bigger then the original and it works pretty well. No loss of details or anything

Getting into Xenogears now, and the whole action - anime fmv, music, everything is flawless

Please PM Mordib detailing as much as you can remember what post, what time it was posted etc... so he can look into it. I'm not sure if he's aware.

As yet it's not happened to me (AFAIK) so it's kind of hard for me to let him know. I doubt it's to do with Server backups/Rollbacks though, or rather it could be but why would it be?

That emulator sounds awesome. I didn't realise the PSP had the power of the PS2.
