Bottom: Criterion
Image Comparisons

Image quality, framing, dirt removal, grain structure and colour goes to the Criterion. It has much stronger colours compared to the
faded Fox Lorber. The FL is interlaced and I would imagine was not scanned in 1080. One can see the quality in the Criterion lends itself
to 1080, if not more, mastering. The print of the Criterion seems to be a French one given the titles at the beginning.
Subtitle Samples

The Criterion features removable subtitles that differ from the Fox Lorber translation. This new translation is similar to those on the
new Seven Samurai criterion release.
The Fox Lorber has burnt-in subtitles which are located in a gigantic black area of the screen.
Fox Lorber Framing
For some odd reason, Fox Lorber decided to make most of the black areas of the widescreen formate be at the bottom of the
screen. I suppose this is to allow the burnt-in subtitles to appear in this area. Nevertheless it is odd and distracting when you watch it
on any kind of television. So of course the Fox Lorber is non-anamorphic.
