Cap 1: HK Video is better, although contrast boosted
Cap 2: HK Video wins, Optimum has ugly blue tint
Cap 3: Optimum looks clearly better, HV Video's contast & brightness boosting hurts the eye.
Hard to say with just three caps, but I'd say HK Video is a little better, but not that much. Optimum is too dark and has worse colours, HK Video is too bright and contrast boosted (very common with their japanese movie releases, unfortunately).

Talk about being pwned. You spent a zillion dollars on the R2J and it turns out to be a hunk of shit compared to the cheap UK release.

It didn't turn out, I knew excatly how it was gonna look. It's better than HK Video or Optimum for sure.

Words of a man in denial.

Well, that doesn't really matter. It's better to own the dvd you think is the best and than the dvd someone else thinks is the best.

In which case it's even better to just buy the cheapest DVD out there and then delude yourself further that it is the best.
Is the Optimum release progressive? Doesn't look like there's anything to seperate it from the Toei otherwise. The HKVideo is the sharpest in appearance, but it looks like it's been filtered to the moon and back.

It's a bit hard when Toei looks so much better...
...but the rest of you go ahead and buy the Optimum disc and we can all be happy
I'd assume Optimum is progressive but some scenes come with a pretty ugly green tint (funnily HK Video is usually blue in those scenes, while Toei is the only one with natural colors

You should have taken grabs from those green/blue tinted scenes then, coz the scenes you have taken show hardly any difference at all between the Optimum/Toei transfers! This is a bleedin comparison forums not a "take screengrabs of your favourite scenes forum"!

Uhm, I don't have Optimum. I haven't taken caps of it. If did own it I wouldn've taken caps of the green scenes.
But I bet the second shot in my HK Video vs Toei comparison is green on Optimum

okay, here's comparison to two dvdbeaver caps. That's the best I can do without owning the Optimum
Top: Optimum beaver
Middle: Toei
Bottom: HK Video
looking at it now, I'm not sure if there's that much actual green tint on Optimum. It's green but maybe partly because of the darkness, gamma or something ??? I don't know about these tech things, what's causing what.

Nah there's no green or blue tinting going on, the percieved difference in colour balance is probably mostly down to the differing brightness levels, with: Optimum = dark, HKvideo = bright.
I might have the Optimum tucked away somewhere (review check-disc), so I'll have a look later and if I do have it I'll take some grabs to match up to some of your Toei ones.
