I'm happy with my barebones R1 - nice transfer and fantastic DTS track.

I presume there was nothing to imply it was 1 or 2 discs? If it's 2 discs I'll pick it up almost for sure but if it's 1 disc I won't bother.

Either way it's about time, thanks Eva. I'll need to know more before I decide.

My Dutch R2 2 Disc SE is mostly fine, it's a bit soft. It has: English DTS, English DD5.1, French DD5.1, English DD2.0, French DD2.0 + a 150 minute running time.

Even if it is missing DTS? I'm betting that it'll be absent.

It depends how good/long/meaty the extras are whether I'd be happy to lose DTS or not. I'd like a sharper print (i.e - compared to my Dutch DVD).

From dvdcompare:-
"Silence On Tourne: Making-Of" featurette (24mins)
'Cannes' Press Conference (18mins)
Interview with Producer/Editor Mary Sweeney (in French only, No Subtitles) (6mins)
Interview with Angelo Badalamenti (17mins)

*Yawn* I'll pass on this (and it'll prolly have no DTS either, since the Frenchy disc doesn't.), maybe if it turns up dirt cheap somewhere. HD-DVD would be a definite double-dip for me though.

Spec. list here too confirms DD5.1 only: http://www.dvdactive.com/news/releases/ ... ition.html

After all this time all they've done is just port the French DVD extras over, they're virtually identical. The extras aren't exactly long (unless the Making of. is new, which I doubt) or meaty. I'd still opt for the R1 Bare-bones with DTS DVD.

That said: The Dutch 2 Disc SE is still the best world-wide version. It has the above French extras + some more extras + English DTS. The French I think loses DTS but either way has Forced French subs (not on the Dutch). I own it, it's a "bit" soft due to also have French DD5.1 (not DTS) but otherwise more than fine.

The ONLY difference being: "Inland Empire Ten Minute Preview".

p.s - HD-DVD or BD HD for me too, easy.
