The Man with the Golden Gun

The Man with the Golden Gun looks much better. Cleaner, brighter and less EE. The colour seems to be correct as well, for
instance, the blue in the first capture. The framing is now at 1.85:1 which differs from the 1.78:1 of the original. I assume,
given the other Connery movies, that this is the correct framing. More is seen at the side as well. All around a nice transfer.

I suspect 1.85:1 is the proper aspect ratio, many anamorphic DVDs get cropped to 1.78:1. Any ideas why?

I've never noticed the difference before but you can here, not that I reckon you'd notice it on a TV screen. That fag screenshot removal also changes the colour of Bond's suit, why bother???

I think it's because when they were making the older DVDs they didn't give a shit if the frame was 78 or 85, they just wanted it to fill the screen. Now, the ultimate editions , well some at least, care about the correct framing and made the changes.

Yeah I noticed that too. I think there's a piece of dirt on the tip of the shoe on the SE which makes it look long.

3rd capture or 1st capture from second pair of caps... if you will?

On the first set of caps, the blue from the gunbarrel view is barely visible on the UE whilst on the SE and my video, it's a rich blue

1.78:1 is the native ratio of widescreen TVs. 1.78:1 images suffer from less over-scan than 1.85:1 ratio transfers in a lot of cases.

It depends on the film, if it was shot soft-matted or hard-matted. If it was hard-matted, then yes it would have been cropped if the DVD transfer ratio is 1.78:1. With those that were soft-matted, they're actually LESS CROPPED - more horizontal information.
