Three Times

Post by bradavon »

Three different time periods - 1966, 1911, 2005, three stories and the same actor and actress, Shu Qi and Chang Chen, play out the two lead roles, evoking a sentimental tale of three reincarnations of an unfinished love.

Have any of you guy seen this? It looks excellent, very Wong Kar-Wai(esque). It's by the director of Millennium Mambo also starring Shu Qi.

p.s - The R1 and HK R3 are non-anamorphic, making the UK R2 the clear winner. You can see how much of a mess the HK R3 is in the review above.

First is good, second will put you to sleep (this is from someone that watched 5 Tsai Ming-liang films in a day) and the third is nothng special. I have the R3TW which is much better than the HK disc and was cheap.

Artificial Eye should go back and release A City of Sadness on DVD seeing as how their OOP VHS is the only subtitled version in existence and it's his greatest film by far. Perhaps even the greatest Taiwanese film ever.

Agreed, except that I liked the third one as well.

I've got the TF1 version which is quite good as far as I remember

The second part looks one of the most interesting.

Lourdes: How much was the Taiwanese and from where? Is it anamorphic? Cheers.

The TF1 is bound to be a rip-off, as most French DVDs are. I'm waiting for the UK DVD to come down in price.

So far I can't find my copy which means it was one of my discs that got nicked or it's behind a bookcase and dead to me. I'm quite sure it was anamorphic and I remember the transfer being good enough to spot it was shot in DV.
YesAsia should have it.
