You should include a subtitle sample, as supposedly the R3 has a better translation or something.

This one was the same (aside from colour and the amount of words in the one subtitle e.t.c) and doesn't have a country on it (the license disclaimer says it's only to be sold in the country where it was bought from which is rather silly). It's suspected the subtitle thing was a myth. I think the whole concept of the film is bullshit. All Westernized and seems like it's coming from a KF fan.

What about at the end of the film (with spoiler tags)?

Have all latest batchs got American subtitles?

The Ziyi / Chang Chen exchange ?
Or the Yeoh / Yun-Fat exchange ?

I think the new R3 subs are slightly different from the R1 subs at the end, but not by much.

The original R3 subs found on the R3 with extras ARE MASSIVELY superior. I couldn't believe my eyes when I read the choice of words in many places, especially during the pivotal end scene.

The newer subs are an insult to the film, greatly dumbing it down. Yep I definitely think a subtitle example is needed.

Everyone is likely to have seen the film here but add SPOILER to the title and include caps from the pivotal end scene, they're the worst there.

I own the R3 (I paid £25 mail from China Town, London , months before it came out anywhere else) and rented the UK R2. If they'd not fucked the subtitles up, strong word but true then I'd have given one of the SBs a go by now.

As for the DVDs the UK R2 is "slightly" sharper but is too dark too, I prefer the R3.

Afraid not it doesn't work that way. The R3 (& "maybe" the R3 SB) has unique subs. The UK R2 definitely has the dumbed down subs, like R1.

Really? What a shame. The British subs as you call them are definitely how it was shown theatrically, at least in the UK anyway.

p.s - I'm sure they're not American/British subs Tom, just different wording (dumbed down is more accurate). There's no American English in them for starters.

Trust me the difference in the translations are no where near as MASSIVE as Brad makes them out to be, the R3 translation is just slightly more poetic in a few scenes (for instance Li Mu Bai's deathbed speech). My memory is shite, but I seem to recall the theatrical subs being more like the R3 translation.

Of course neither subs are badly made, have spelling errors or grammar mistakes but they're definitely an obvious change.

We'll agree to disagree but I personally don't think I was too harsh on the non-Theatrical/R3 subs. They really dumb things down. Slightly poetic no way.

They definitely are. I don't normally remember how things looked in the cinema but this one I distinctively remember the subs in the end sequence being the same as the R3.

p.s - Chen please add subs for the end sequence. Not that it may mean a lot if the R3 now also has messed up subs, right?

R3 Standard is the odd one out, so messed up.

I can add R3 Standard subs this w/e, my copy is the proper version. I don't have a messed up one to use though. It doesn't matter if we get the "exact" frame on this one as it's the subs which are important.

I'll be using the end sequence so by definition it will contain massive spoilers!
